CH6 - Week11

The document applies the work-energy method to solve a constant force problem. A 850 N force acts on a body for the first 8 meters of its 12 meter motion from rest. Using the work-energy equation and accounting for friction, the velocity of the body after 12 meters is calculated to be 3.09 m/s.

Application of the Work-Energy method: Constant Forces

A constant force P=850 N acts on the body shown during only the first 8 m of its motion starting
from rest. If μ= 0.20, find the velocity of the body after it has moved a total distance of 12 m.

Solution:
4
N 1= 2000N – 850( ) = 1398.96 N
4 √2
F 1= 0.20(1398.96) = 279.72N

N 2= 2000N

F 2= 0.20(2000) = 400N

∑ ¿¿ ∑ ¿¿
4 1 2000
850(
4 √2
)(8) – 279.72(8) - 400N(4) = (
2 9.81 )
(V 22−0 )

V 22 = 3.09 m/s answer
