Nature of Course: M (Practical application)


Pre Requisites: Electrical Machines – I Laboratory
Course Objective:
To expose the operation of synchronous and induction machines and give them
experimental skills.
Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, students shall have ability to
C404.1 Determine the performance of synchronous generator by conducting various [U]
tests.
C404.2 Obtain the characteristics of V and inverted V curves in synchronous motor. [U]
C404.3 Analyze the performance of induction machines. [A]
C404.4 Simulate the performance induction machines using software. [U]
C404.5 Identify the specific starter for induction machines [U]
Course Contents:
List of Experiments
1. Speed control of three phase induction motor using simulation.
2. Performance characteristics of single phase and three phase induction motors using
simulation.
3. Performance characteristics of three phase alternator by direct loading.
4. Regulation of three phase alternator by EMF and MMF methods.
5. Regulation of three phase alternator by ZPF method.
6. Regulation of three phase salient pole alternator by slip test.
7. V and Inverted V curves of Three Phase Synchronous Motor.
8. Load test on single and three phase induction motor.
9. No load and blocked rotor tests on three-phase induction motor (Determination of
equivalent circuit parameters).
10. Separation of No-load losses of three-phase induction motor.
