- At the top of the main-menu and every folder, the keys 1 to 9 are shortcuts to the icons 1-9
- A shortcut on the left menukey in standby-mode will take more time to open than a shortcut
on
the right menukey. Reason: The left key is also used for the keylock so it shortly waits for
pressing the * button.
- While writing text press and hold "#" to switch between Alpha mode and Number mode.
You
can also press a key long to insert its number.
- In standby-mode, press and hold 0 to launch your wap home page.

look
at the time when it's dark without having to unlock the keypad.
- To keep the backlight on, run Torch (freeware), press and hold the Menu button and go
somewhere else on the phone.
- To check your current firmware version simply type *#0000# in standby screen.

Your files in MMC are stored in multiple (disk) blocks.
So if you format using 16K block, the space used will be 16K eventhough your file is just 1K.
If you buy MMC, it is usually preformatted with 16K block. Therefore alot of space is wasted
as
most installed program files are usually less than 2K.
You will need a card reader to do this:-
1. Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk.
(Make sure you set the show all/hidden/os files to "on")
2. Do a format of the MMC using command line "format" and use the /A=size option.
Alternative, you can use the Disk Management in Adminstrative Tools to format.
Make sure you select FAT. For 256MB MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128MB is
2K,
64Mb is 1K and 32MB is 512B.
(Note: You cannot use the phone "format MMC" to do this as the format just clear the
allocation
table and does not change the block size)
3. Copy back all files to MMC.
Now you will find that you will have more space.
256mb MMC got back 30+ mbs

CHECK SIM-LOCK
Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this
because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you
bought
your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that
they
both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a
"Dual
band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so
they
lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your
phone is
locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you
can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.
This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong
number,
because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.
There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone.
COUNTRY-LOCK
NETWORK-LOCK
PROVIDER-LOCK
SIMCARD-LOCK
The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is
#PW+(MASTERCODE)+(Y)#
# = DOUBLE-CROSS
W = PRESS "*" THREE TIMES
P = PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES
+ = PRESS "*" TWO TIMES
MASTERCODE = 1234567890
Y = NUMBER 1 TO

THE JAMES BOND TRICK
If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all
connections
touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated.
Before
you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing
volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking
about
in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call
without
ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

Looks if the sim clock can be stopped. Sim clock stop is a kind of stand-by mode which will
save
battery time. This code doesn't work with software version 4.59.
*3370# activates the Enchanced Full Rate, after the phone has been turned off. EFR

#3370# deactivates the EFR, after the phone has been turned off.
*4720# Activates the Half Rate Codec, after the phone has been turned off. HRC produces
poorer voice quality but gives your battery better stand-by times.
#4720# Deactivates the Half Rate Codec, after the phone has been turned off.
Enhanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new
EFR
codec uses the ACELP compression technology. This technology allows for much great
voice
quality in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate codec. The older technology was
called
LPC-RPE. Both operate at 13 kilobits, but you take up more space on the network, so they
can
charge you more. Talk-time is reduced with about 5%
Half Rate will give you poorer voice quality, which gives the service provider the opportunity
to
have more calls on the network, and you might get a lower charge from them. Will give you
30%
longer talk-time.

Change Alpha Tag
The alpha tag is the message that is displayed on your phone when in digital coverage. This
is
normally transmitted by the network, but can be overidden to display a different tag. This is
done
by creating a tag for a personal/residential zone in the phone, and setting this zone to have
the
same settings as your normal carrier. So when the phone identifies the network system it
believes it is in the personal/residential zone and displays the tag you have programmed.
1) Enter programming mode of the phone by keying *3001#12345#

Enchanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new
Enhanced Full Rate CODEC adopted by GSM uses the ASELP (AlgebraicCode Excitation
Linear Prediction) compression technology. This technology allows for much great voice
quality
in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate CODEC. The older technology was called
LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13
kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more) - Talk-
time
is reduced with about 5%

Nokia Speed Trap Detector Urban Legend spread by Nokia Engineers ;^)
The settings for radar speed traps detector. Your Nokia cell phone can be programmed to
pick
up radar speed traps, when programmed your cell phone picks up the radar and alerts you
on
the message alert tone. ( Doesn't work with Nokia 7110! )
1. Enter your menu
2. Select settings
3. Select security settings
4. Select closed user group
5. Select on
6. Enter 00000
7. Press ok
8. Clear back to normal, within a few seconds your phone will display a radar sign with five
zero's next to it. It is now activated.
Unfortunately only Nokia phones have this function. The Cell Phone info display needs to be
deactivated.
Settings -> Phone Settings -> Cell Info display. Each time you turn off your phone, or
even each time you loose contact with your carrier, you'll have to activate it again... It is done
using steps 1 through 5 above, but the number (00000) will be already on the field as a
default.

Network Monitor
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Network Monitor
There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to
reprogram
some chips inside of your phone.
Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
Take apart the phone.
De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64)
Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup)
If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF"
If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF"
Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone
Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.
The Network Monitor gives you the following information:
Carrier number, MS RX Level in DBM, Received signal quality, MS TX power level, C1 (Path
loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99, RTL (Radio link
timeout), Timeslot, Indication of the transmitter status, Information on the Network
parameters,
TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity), Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells
being
used), MCC (Mobile country code), MCN (Mobile network code), LAC (Location area code),
Ciphering (On/Off), Hopping (On/Off), DTX (On/Off), Discard cell barred information.

GSM Network Services Command Strings
When various network functions are selected via the cellphone's menu using the keypad, the
cellphone automatically generates the corresponding GSM network command string and
transmits it to the network. These commands can however be manually entered via the
keypad.
Each command is prefixed with either one or two * or # characters as follows:
** Register and Activate
* Activate
## De-Register (and Deactivate)
# Deactivate
*# Check Status
© Call button
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Once each command has been entered, if it is a network command (as opposed to a local
handset command) it must be transmitted to the network by pressing the YES (receiver) key
which acts as an enter key - this is represented here with the © character. Always enter
numbers in full international format +CountryAreaNumber (e.g. +447712345678).

GSM Network Service Codes
Note that at present only the following service codes are in use:
11 Speech
13 fax
25 data
Cell Broadcast
While Short Message Service (SMS) can be configured as a personal service, Cell
Broadcast is
a general service which is designed for subscribers of a specific cell or topic. For example, a
subscriber to cell 050 in England will receive information on the GSM tower currently being
used
by their phone. This new concept brings a whole new meaning to the term mobile
communications as the phone is now able to receive information such as share prices or
weather updates without the need of data cards and computers. At present the following
message types exist (note: this may vary from carrier to carrier and some carriers may
charge
for this service):
Code Title
000 Index
010 Flashes
020 Hospitals
022 Doctors
024 Pharmacy
030 Long Distant Road Reports
032 Local Road Reports
034 Taxis
040 Weather
050 District
052 Network Information
054 Operator Services
056 Directory Inquiries (national)
057 Directory Inquiries (international)
058 Customer Care (national)
059 Customer Care (international)
In the future one will be able to control each individual call by use of the following service
codes.
To do this the user has to insert the service code in front of the last # in the MMI command
above.
For example the sequence *21*number*16# would divert all SMS calls (and only these) to
the
given number.

with Widcomm software (MSI, TDK etc).
If you cannot send files from your Nokia to PC, you may want to try the following tip:
Open your Windows registry in Registry editor: Menu Start -> Run -> Regedit
locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Servic es\0004 key
locate AcceptOther entry
change its value from 0 to 1
reboot your computer.

Series 40:
Q: I've installed a game and it is not fullscreen. Can it be fixed?
A: No, the games are especially programed for Series 30 phones. But in most cases the
game
also exists for Series 40
Q: What size can app/games are?
A: max. 64 KB excepting these phones
The 3125 has a limit of 146KB.
The 3220 has a limit of 128KB.
The 5140 has a limit of 128KB.
The 6170 has a limit of 128KB.
The 6230 has a limit of 128KB.
The 6255 has a limit of 800KB.
The 6651 has a limit of 300KB.
The 7600 has a limit of 348KB.
Q: I want install a sis-file, how it's done?
A: You can't. sis-files are especially for phones with Symbian OS.
Q: Where do I get a blank operator logo?
A: Here:
CODE
http://www.mrzippy.org.uk/funkyfone/blank.nol
Just open the link via your phones browser. The rest is self-explaining
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Series 60:
Q: Can Series 40 Games be played on Series 60 phones?
A: Yes, but they won't be in fullscreen. The game will remain in their original programed size.
Q: I've bought a cable for my phone but it won't work. Why?
A: There are no data-cables. These cables are only for service needs and are not capable to
transfer data to your phone. The 7610 is the first Symbian of Nokia which can use a cable
(besides of the Communicator - but they are a different story )
Q: Where are my messages saved?
A: If your phone saves them within the phones memory they are in c:\system\mail. If they are
saved on the MMC (not on all S60 phones possible) they are in e:\system\mail
Q: I've formatted my MMC with a card reader, now I can't access the card with my phone.
What
now?
A: You've formatted it with the wrong file system. If you want to reformat it with the card
reader,
choose FAT16 as files system, not FAT32! Or reformat the MMC with your phone, this way
all
standard folders will be created too.
Q: How can I copy & paste text?
A: Press and hold down the pencil key. Now you can mark the text by using the direction
key. To
copy, just press "copy". To insert the text press and hold down the pencil key and press
"paste"
Q: Where to put my ringtones?
A: Ringtones should be stored in the "Sounds" folder on your MMC or within the phones
memory. You can, if you want, sort them into the two subfolders "Simple" and "Digital".
Q: How do I install an app/ a game?
A: There are many ways. PC Suite bounds sis-files to its installer. You should be able to
install
them easily by double clicking on the sis-file (a connection should be made already!). Or you
can send it over to the phone (IrDA or Bluetooth) and open it and it will install automatically.
Or
you can upload it with a card reader to the MMC and install it from there by open the file. For
this method you need FExplorer or SeleQ to gain full access to the MMC.
The rest will be prompted and is easy to understand
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Q: Which Symbian OS version does my phone use?
A: 3600/3620/3650/3660/7650/N-Gage/N-Gage QD are using v6.1;
6260/6600/6620/6670/7610
are using v7.0s; 6630 uses Symbian OS 8.0
Q: How can I upgrade my Symbian OS to a newer version?
A: You can't.
Q: How do I format my phone?
A: - Normal Reset (*#7780#) : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos,
3rd
party apps etc)
- Deep Reset (*#7370#) : This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files
stored
on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.
In both case, the phone will ask you a confirmation and you will have to enter a security code
(12345 by default).
Files and applications stored on E: drive are not be affected by these sequences.
For Symbian OS 7 (6260/6600/6620/6670/7610) there is a third method:
Turn phone off, press and hold the green (talk) key on the left + number 3 on the keypad +
the *
key and then turn the phone back on.
The phone will start the formatting process without confirmation!
Files and applications stored on E: drive are not be affected by this.
Q: How do I get the MAC adress of the bluetooth device of my phone?
A: *#2820#
Q: My phone reacts quite slow, how can I speed it up?
A: You can speed up the phone by setting the time of the "Recent calls register" to one day
(30
days by default). It depends on you how important the "Recent calls register" is for you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nokia 6230:
Q: When I want to upload something on the MMC I get a "The operation could not be
completed" error. How to fix this?
A: Rename the MMC (can be done in the Gallery) and reboot your phone.
Q: Can I use mp3s as ringtones?
A: Yes!
Q: I've got a big movie on my phone and want to fastforward (rewind). How can I do this?
A: You can't.
Q: I've uploaded mp3s to my MMC and arranged them in folders. The phone won't find any
of
them. Can this be fixed?
A: mp3s have to be in the root of the MMC. Or you define the location of the mp3s before
uploading via playlist, so when the phone accesses the playlist, it knows the mp3s are in this
specific folder.

- 4096 colourscreen
- Stereo (comes with stereo headset)
- Comes with a USB cable, recording cable and adaptor cable (for recording radio/MP3
purposes)
- Built in MP3 player and radio
- side-talking
- Must turn off the phone, remove the battery cover AND battery in order to remove MMC
- 5-way direction pad (CENTER for menu selection)
- Comes with BL-5C battery
- MP3, AAC, MIDI or WAV ringtones
- Great RF
N-Gage QD
- Dualband (850/1900 or 900/1800)
- 4096 colourscreen (brighter than Original N-Gage)
- Mono (comes with dual mono headset)
- Doesn't come with ANY cables
- NO built in MP3 player or radio (will still be able to listen to mp3's thru 3rd party apps)
- NO side-talking
- Hot-swop, easy removal of MMC
- 4-way direction pad with a separate "menu selection" key
- Comes with BL-6C battery
- MIDI or WAV ringtones
- Great RF (better than Original N-Gage if 850 is being used)
(2) Which N-Gage is better?
It's really hard to say because everyone has their own opinions. But if you are looking
functionwise
the original N-Gage wins out with the stereo support, MP3 ringtones, radio, tri-band and
additional cables/recording functions. But the QD counters with its 850 (for those 850 gurus),
smaller-size, no side-talking, BL-6C battery(for extra battery life)and the easy removal of
MMC.
(3) Can my (input s60 phone here) play N-Gage games? Where/How can I find ******* N-
Gage
games for my (input s60 phone here)?
Yes your s60 phone can play N-Gage games. How and where? according to forum rules, I
am
not allow to tell. Sorry.
(4) How do I check firmware and IMEI on my N-Gage/QD?
Press *#0000# on the main screen for firmware, and *#06# for IMEI.
(5) How do I change my operator logo for my N-Gage/QD?
Download SeleQ or FExplorer from mysymbian.com, access the image thru either of the
apps
and select "Set as Operator Logo". If that doesn't work, SMS yourself or download an older
format logo (black and white), and then save that logo. After that, you should be able to
change
your operator logo thru SeleQ or FExplorer.
(6) How do I change my wallpaper on my N-Gage/QD?
1) Press the application key
2) Scroll to the "Tools" folder and open it
3) Scroll to "Settings" and open it
4) Select "Phone/Device" (whichever your phone may say)
5) Select "Standby Mode"
6) Select "Background Image"
7) Select "Yes"
Select either "Phone Memory" or your MMC card depending on where the image is saved
9) Select the image
10) Go back to your main screen of the phone

With Multimedia Converter 2.0 [download] you can convert common multimedia file formats
(such as MPG or MP3) to audio AMR/AWB format.
Read here about where to download and how to install Nokia Multimedia Converter
1. In the menu, select File > Open. A dialog opens. The shortcut for this is to click the Open
button in the toolbar. Browse for the audio file or video with audio you want to convert and
click
Open. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop a file to Multimedia Converter.
2. Select the audio format (AMR or WB-AMR) and audio bit rate. WB-AMR produces higher
quality sound than AMR. Selecting a higher bit rate increases the quality of the sound, but it
produces larger files.
3. It is also possible to set the maximum size of the converted file in the Max file size edit
box. In
MMS, the size of audio file cannot exceed certain values; for example, 100 kB, because
some
WAP gateways might block the transfer of larger files, operators might prefer to limit the file
size
to reduce air-traffic, or because not all MMS client and server implementations support large
file
sizes. When you set a maximum file size limit, you cannot define the audio bit rate. It's
adjusted
automatically so that the converted file contains the whole original file from the given start
point
and so that its size is equal to or smaller than the given size limit. If the given size limit is too
small to meet by reducing audio bit rate, the converted file is truncated (shortened from the
end).
4. You can start the conversion from an offset point. Set the time stamp of the offset in the
Start
time edit box. The shortcut for this is to keep the CTRL key pressed and slide the original file
location indicator to the desired position. This updates the time stamp information in the Start
time edit box.
5. Click Convert. Another dialog pops up and shows the progress of the conversion. After the
conversion is finished, you can hear the converted audio file. You can select the original or
converted audio for playback by selecting “Original” or “Converted” from the drop down
menu
The converted audio file format is AMR (.amr suffix files) or WB-AMR (.awb suffix files),
depending on the audio setting.

Copying Files From PC To Phone
While some files are sent to your phone by a provider through MMS, others have been
copied to
your computer and have to be sent to your phone for installation. There are a number of
ways of
transferring files between your computer and your phone. The 6600 has Bluetooth and
Infrared
(I/R) connections available to it. The best way of copying files is by using these connections.
If
your computer doesn't have bluetooth or I/R capabilities, there are many bits of hardware on
the
market that plug into a USB drive and enable Bluetooth or Infrared connections (check links
for
example products).
Bluetooth is usually a preffered method as it is alot faster than an I/R connection and doesn't
need a clear sight to maintain a connection as I/R does and has a larger range (usually
around
10m).
-If you are using a plug-in device, install it using the software and instructions provided. Also
turn on either the Bluetooth or I/R connection on your phone, whichever you are using. Goto
MENU--CONNECTIONS for this and select either Bluetooth or Infrared
-If you are using Bluetooth, it is a good idea to change the name of your phone so that it can
be
easily recognised. Goto MENU--CONNECTIONS--BLUETOOTH and go down to "My
Phone's
Name" and change it to something you would recognise.
-Once all the connection devices are ready, use your PC to search for the phone. If you are
using infra-red, make sure the phone's infrared port and the I/R port on your PC are pointing
towards each other and that nothing is between them.
-Once a connection has been established, send the install file thats is on your PC to your
phone. This will be received as a message on your phone once it has been sent.
-Open this message, and if te file is a working install file, the install process will start
automatically.
NOTE: I recommend that you change your message setting to use the MMC memory as
opposed to you phone memory some files are quite large and can eat up all your phones
memory
Another way to copy files to your phone is by using a card reader to copy the file to your
MMC
(The removeable memory card). A Memeory card reader can easily be bought in most
computer
stores and once installed, the MMC from your phone can be place in its contents can be
navigated from MY COMPUTER. I have never used this method myself.
NOTE: Only .SIS and .JAR files can be used on the 6600. Old .jad files used for othe phone
models DO NOT WORK on the 6600. Some .JAR files have also been known to cause
problems for the 6600.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Installing Files
The Install Process is very basic once it is initiated. Files that are to be installed are usually
located in your messages. Make sure your phone isn't about to run out of battery as well!
-Goto the file you want to install (usually located in your messages) and open it to start the
installation procedure.
-The install procedure should start up automatically and ask you if you would like to install
the
program contained in the file.
-Choose yes and the process will continue. It will then ask you where to copy the file to,
phone
memory or Memory Card. I recommend using the memory card as programs can usually
take up
alot of space and the phone memory is not very large. Chose the prefered option and the
process will continue.
-Some times the process will stop and tell you that a certificate has not been recognised and
do
you want to continue. It is usally safe to continue with installation if you are confidant that the
source you got the file from is trustworthy. If however you have obtained the files from an
unknow source (Kaza for instance) there might be a small (Very Small) risk that the file is not
trustworthy. I have never had any problems with any of the hundreds of files i have used
-Once the installation process is finished, you can start using the program. Most programs
turn
up as an icon at the bottom of you MENU screen. (You can now delete the origional install
file to
save space).
NOTE: All the files i hvae put up on this site have been tested by me and, as far as i know,
are
working 100% . However the user downloads and installs these files at their own risk. I am
not
responsible for anything that goes wrong with connection to these files

Uninstalling Files
I got an e-mail the other day from a Wessel Rauch concerning uninstalling programs on the
6600 and it made me realise that i (stupidly) hadn't added it to the Install Files Tutorial I did a
while back. So here is a quick explanantion of how you can delete those pesky programs:
Go into the Menu on your phone (press the blue 'menu' key on the left hand side of the
phone)
Cycle through the menu till you come to an option that says "Manager" and open it (either by
pressing the joystick in or using Options - Open)
The Manger (or the App. Manger) is a list of all programs that are installed on the phone be it
on
the MMC card or the phones memory
The Manager sometimes takes a few seconds to load all the information. You'll hear a beep
upon opening the Manager and then a beep once the list is loaded (or you can just wait till it
allows you to scroll down)
Once the list is loaded, cycle through it till you come to the name of the program you want to
uninstall
Once the target program is highlighted, press the "clear" button (The button with the 'c' on it
which is on the right hand side of the phone
A warning will come up asking you if you really want to remove the application Yes or No
Click 'Yes' to completeley remove the program from your phone or click 'No' to keep it or if
you
have made a mistake.
There are a couple of notes i would also like to add about unistalling programs:
Once a program is removed it can only be re-installed if you have the orgional install file you
used to install it in the first place
Sometimes the name of the program you want to uninstall isn't given a recognisable name in
the
App. Manger List. If this is the case you should use your own common sense to try and
decide
which one is reffering to the program you want to remove. If you are unsure you risk deleting
a
program you didn't want to lose
On rare occasions, the program won;t be listed in the App. Manager List at all. If this is the
case
you will have to use a file manger like F-Explorer or File Man to find and delete the files you
want removed
Sorry if some parts of te tutorial seemed a bit over-simplistic but some readers really are
beginners at this
Well i hope that helps some of you out there...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Note 1: It is a good idea to let set your MMS and SMS messages to be kept on your MMC,
not
on your phone memory. Any MMS or SMS's currently on your phone's memory, it is
suggested
you move them over to the MMC.
Note 2: You must have some sort of file managing software to do this. Download and install
such an application before beginning this guide! I recommend FExplorer or SeleQ.
-- STEP ONE -- THE INSTALLER --
First Get the BLZ installer and your desired game.
Send the BLZ-Installer to your phone, it should be a *.SIS file, if it is not, then it is probably a
*.ZIP or *.RAR, unpack the *.SIS file from the archive, then send it. DO NOT send the *.ZIP
or
*.RAR files to your phone.
Install the application.
-- STEP TWO -- THE GAME FILE --
Next, you need to get the game ready. Game files are in the *.BLZ format. Like the
BLZInstaller,
if the game file is not a *.BLZ file, unpack the archives until you find the *.BLZ file.
You may need to do this a few times, because usually games are packed more than once.
Once you have the *.BLZ game file unpacked, send this to your phone.
-- STEP THREE -- INSTALLATION --
Open your installed file manager and find the *.BLZ game file in one of the mail folders
(Example -- e:\system\mail\XXXX) and copy the file to the root directory of the MMC
(Example --
e:\). Now Close the file manager.
Run the BLZ-Installer. Now you should see the game listed there. Select Option and then
Install.
Wait for the process to finish. The game should then be installed.
If you followed the procedure correctly and everything went well, you should see a new Icon,
that is the game.
PLAY IT!!
-- UNINSTALL THE GAMES -- by ady199 --
For anyone else who wants to to how to remove the games
Download SeleQ or FExplorer
Remove the folder:
E:\System\Apps\Game Name
(ie motogp, sonicn)
Remove folder:
C:\System\Apps\Game Name
Thats it!

When a .jar installs it will drop files into to different parts of the system directory on the mmc
The
.jar file along with a couple of files will sit in the e/system/midlets folder.
In the e/system/apps folder you will find corresponding files for each of the games normally
named something like this [101b7b5a] inside these folders you will find a couple of files one
being a .txt file you can open these and it will tell you what game they are associated with.
Makes sure that these folders are also deleted if they are still there after the uninstallation
and
then reboot. you should then hopefully have gotten rid of the icons that have nbeen left
behind.

Keylocked Backlight
Press the power button to switch on the backlight when keylock is applied so you can see
the
keys to unlock the keypad.
Handy Flashlight
If you ever need a flashlight in a pinch, simply remove the phone's swappable faceplate (it's
held
on by the tab at the top of the phone and some pressure on the sides) and the blue LEDs
that
light up the keypad will light your way.
Simple Task Manager
Press and hold the menu key (the one with the squiggly connecting things on). A list of
running
programs appears on the left side on the screen. You can close running programs by
highlighting them and pressing c.
Booting Phone with no 'Auto Start' Apps Running
To make sure that no memory-resident programs start when you reboot your phone, hold
down
the pencil key when you turn the phone on. I don't have anything running on my phone that
this
affects, but the idea is that you can stop some of those apps – say Handy Day or something
like
it – that starts up automatically when you restart the phone.
Repeating Events
The Calendar GUI does not support repeating events based on the day of the week (i.e. third
Sunday). A workaround is to enter the event on a Palm device and beam the event to the
3650.
Deleting all events from the calendar
To delete all events from the calendar (or those before a certain date), change to the Month
view, then from the Options menu choose Delete Entry. The drop down menu lets you
choose
from “all entries” or “before date”.
Easier Handy Flashlight
Download the Torch application and run it. All it does is turn on the backlightFlashlight
Change the wallpaper
You can change this by going to the following Tools -> Settings -> Phone -> Standby Mode,
then selecting Yes and choosing the image you would like to use as your background.
Turn off camera sound
Turn off the “click” sound made by the camera by selecting the 'Silent' profile or by turning
warning tones off:
Menu > Profiles > “select your activated profile” > Personalise > Warning tones > Off.
(This also effects the sound of Java games and apps).

How to connect your N-Gage to your PC
Step 1.
Before you do anything. Place your MMC into your phone and format it.
Step 2.
Place the N-Gage disc (that comes with the phone) into your cd rom.
If youve got XP: Connect your N-Gage to your pc with the USB cable. Leave windows to find
all
the necessary drivers automatically. Your MMC in your N-Gage will now be recognised as a
removeable drive in 'My Computer'.
If you havent got XP: Do the same as above. If nothing happens, run the program on the
NGage
disc and install any drivers you find.
If any of the above does not work click Here
Step 3.
Once the MMC is recognised by your PC, simply drag and drop any files you want onto the
MMC (removeable drive).
Step 4.
Download FExplorer from HERE and place the file on your MMC.
Once on the MMC go to your menu then Tools --> Manager --> FExplorer --> Options -->
Install
Follow all the on screen intructions. This has installed a file browser for you N-Gage. You
can
now access all the files on your N-Gage and MMC which 'Manager' can't see (like Java
games).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
Some usefull n-gage tips:
1. You cant use the USB cable unless a MMC is inserted into the N-Gage.
2. You can only use Multimedia Cards in the N-Gage. SD cards DO NOT work.
3. If you brought your N-Gage in the UK there is no need to purchase a MMC, as one is
provided with the phone (Nokia Game Card is also a MMC).
4. You can find free games and applications at www.my-symbian.com
5. All the apps and games available for the 3650/7650 will work on your N-Gage (except
those
associated with a camera).
6. For full specifications of the phone click Here.
7. The N-Gage doesnt have a camera and most likely never will. If it did it would connect via
the
USB port or bluetooth.
8. The N-Gage does have removeable fascias, but doesnt appear to be promoted by Nokia.
Third party fascias only.
9. PC Suite is only used to backup/restore your calendar and contacts files. It is therefore
unecessary to purchase a blutetooth adapter and install PC Suite unless intended for that
purpose.
10. You must fully charge your phone before using it to allow maximum capacity.
11. You can use MMC that are larger than 128mb. A 512mb card has been tried and tested
by
numerous members and all have praised it. Search the forum for more info.

Series 60 FAQ: E-Mail Issues
Contents
1. Setting up an e-mail account on the phone.
2. Error Message: General System Error.
3. Able to receive but not send email.
4. Can I automatically check my email every x minutes?
1. Setting up an e-mail account on the phone.
This can be done by filling in all the relavent settings. You need both an access point (a
general
GPRS data access point, not a WAP GPRS access point) and an e-mail account defined.
Nokia users however, may find it easier to use the Nokia auto configurator. This is available
[here.]
Many Nokia country-specific sites also have this service. Check your coutries Nokia website
for
this.
2. Error Message: General System Error.
This is sometimes seen when connecting to an e-mail box. With some providers the gateway
IP
address used for Email collection needs to be 0.0.0.0. You can change this setting in your
Access Point Settings (available under Tools --> Connections).
Alternatively some internet service providers do not allow you to collect POP3 mail when you
are connecting to their mail server via a different ISP. You are connecting via a different ISP
if
you are using your phone. Your ISP in this case is your operator.
3. Able to receive but not send email.
You are probably trying to use you PC's ISP email server (smtp.myisp.co.uk). Many ISPs
block
there smtp server for people not connecting to the internet via themselves. This prevents the
servers being used for spam. This is annoying for mobile phone users as it means they can
not
use their ISP's servers from their phones.
However most operators provide a smtp server that you can use. You should contact your
operator for details.
4. Can I automatically check my email every x minutes?
This is possible with 3rd party software from [Cibenix] called Active Mail.

Nokia Symbian FAQ: Memory Cards
Contents
1. Can I use SD cards with my 3650?
2. What sizes of MMC cards are supported?
3. What can I store on my MMC?
1. Can I use SD cards with my 3650?
No you can not use SD (Secure Digital) cards with your 3650. Only MMC cards will work.
This is
despite the fact most devices / gadgets using SD support MMC. The reverse is not true.
There
is a slight difference in size. MMC cards are thinner.
2. What size of MMC cards are supported?
You will have no problems with the following sizes: 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 MB. There may be
some problems with 256 MB cards (which in any case are not widely available). This may be
fixed by a future firmware update. However for the time being I advise you not to buy a 256
MB
card specifically for your 3650. If you already have one and it works let us know about it.
3. What can I store on my MMC?
You can store anything on your MMC card. Programs will run from your MMC card (you can
choose to install programs to the memory card at install time). There may be some
performance
degradation from running programs and/or files from the MMC (when either accessing and
especially when writing files to the MMC). However this is rarely noticeable and given the
limited
main memory it is advisable to use MMC memory for everything possible.
Note that you can change your photos, videos, messages and contacts to be stored on the
MMC. The option to change the storage to the MMC is within the “settings” section of each
of
the applicable programs.

[Howto] to free more RAM on your S60 phone
As you might know, the Nokia 3650 doesn't have as much RAM as for instance the
Nokia 6600 and N-Gage but there are two ways to get more free (usable) RAM:
>>> Method 1: Flight mode:
Put your 3650 in "Flight mode" with Psiloc System Tools. Install System Tools, open it and
select "Flight mode". This way you can restart
the phone without your SIM card so there will be no running phone tasks in the background.
Now you can have up to 3,5 MB of free RAM!
Note: ironically enough, Flight mode doesn't work when Smart Launcher is installed, at least
in
my case. :-(
But i've also heard several reports of people who have both apps running without any
problems.
;-)
>>> Method 2: Smart Launcher trick:
Install Smart Launcher and open it. Go to Options, Settings and put Launcher ON.
Now plug in your charger and switch off your 3650. Wait untill the battery meter appears and
short press the Menu button (don't hold).
The menu should appear and now you can have 3,5 to 4,5 MB free RAM! (Hold Menu button
to
check RAM).
The trick is that with the charger plugged in, the phone must get a minimum software support
for
charging, even when
the phone is switched off. And somehow Smart Launcher has still got it's shortcut running
and
that's the Menu button. So when
you press the Menu button, you go directly to the Menu without any other phone tasks
running
in the background so
you trick the phone and you have more free RAM!
Note: when you unplug the charger, the phone will switch off.
Using one of the above methods will let you run big games (e.g. Doom) and apps without
getting
those annoying "memory low" messages. :-)
But both ways obviously do have two major disadvantages: you can't make phone calls or
use
Bluetooth while using these methods.

[Explained] Drives on symbian phones
Disk C: - storage ("disk") memory. 4 MB (about 3,6 MB free for the user). This disk is used
for
storing user data, files and applications. Disk C: is a Flash disk, which means that it
preserves
its contents even when the power is off or the battery is removed. This memory cannot be
expanded. If you need more storage memory, you can use one of the compression tools like
Smart Compress or Space Doubler.
Disk D: (in Nokia 3650 - Disk E - RAM-disk (400 kilobytes). This disk is meant for internal
system use. Some applications temporarily store their data on this disk, which makes them
work
faster (RAM memory is much faster than Flash). It is useless to save any user data on D:
because all contents of this disk are lost when you switch the phone off or reboot the
system.
Disk Z: - read only Flash memory (16 Megabytes). Contains firmware (operating system).
Contents of Z: drive cannot be modified by the user. Firmware upgrade can only be made by
authorized service centres using special Flash programming devices and Nokia service
software
called Phoenix.
Operating memory (RAM) - this memory is for executing installed applications. The size is 4
MB
(of which ~3 MB are available). You cannot install anything to this memory and you cannot
expand it.
(Nokia 3650 only) Memory card (disk D - 16 MB MMC (Multimedia card). Flash memory for
user
data and applications. You can use this memory to install more programs, store large files
(movies, audio, pictures etc). Can be replaced with any other MMC card - up to 1GB.
If you still have problems with understanding the memory structure of Nokia 3650/7650
phones,
think of disk C: as of internal hard disk of your PC, MMC in 3650 as of second hard disk and
operating memory as of RAM of your desktop.

Operator Logos Explained
The operator logo is the picture on top of your phone screen, in most cases is the name of
your
operator.
How to change it for a nice picture? You can do this by diferent ways:
First create this folder if you dont have it:
C:\System\Apps\Phone\Oplogo\
The operator logo will be stored on it...)
You can use FExplorer (any jpeg/bmp, no resize), seleQ (any image, it will resize it) -->
select
the image you want be operator logo, select options-file-set as operator logo.
You can make your own logo:
The operator logos have the following format:
COUNTRYCODE_NETWORKCODE_SUBNETCODE.BMP
For example, for Spain:
Amena: 214 03 -> 214_3_0.BMP
Movistar: 214 07 -> 214_7_0.BMP
Vodafone: 214 01 -> 214_1_0.BMP
In the PHILIPPINES:
Smart: 515 01
Globe: 515 02
The size for bmp is 97 x 25 pixels.
Also, you can store diferent logos for diferent operators. For example if you change your SIM
to
other operator, you will see the other logo, or if you travel to other countries, you can store
diferent logos for the operators in this countries.
You have a list of country codes and network codes here , just ignore the first "0" in network
code if any.
If you want to delete the logo to restore the original (name of the operator) just delete the
bmp
file from c:\system\apps\phone\oplogo.

· Press and hold the Menu key to open the application switching window, where you can
*duh*
switch between applications.
If a program hangs and you can't shut it down, select the application in the
application switching window and press 'C' to kill it. It's also a faster way to exit programs.
· Turn on/off the "click" sound made by the camera by selecting the 'Silent' profile or by
turning
warning tones on/off:
Menu > Profiles > "select your activated profile" > Personalise > Warning tones > On/Off.
(This also effects the sound of Java games and apps).

with details on when the message was recieved by the recipient.
Start up in Safe Mode so no 'auto start' apps will be running:
To make sure that no memory-resident programs start when you reboot your phone,
hold down the pencil key when you turn on the phone and hold it on untill you have to enter
your
PIN code.
(When you have trouble booting up the phone with the MMC in it because it got corrupted for
some reason, this trick will
almost always let you boot up the phone so you can remove the latest installed app which
might
have caused the
problem or if your phone is "unrepairable" you can still back up your important data before
you
do a format.)

Repairing A Corruptted MMC
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Repairing A Corruptted MMC.
Correct Treatment of your MMC:
Physically, memory cards are quite fragile pieces of high technology, susceptible to damage
from various silly things like excessive heat, condensation, strong magnetic fields, physical
damage from rough handling and/or bending! (similar to most electronic devices then..)
Given the natue of mobile memory card products, they are constantly being taken in and out
of
some form of interface with a mobile phone, a camera, a laptop, or desktop PC, or a
separate
memory card reader. The number of different devices they have to be able to interact with is
in
the thousands.
It is not too surprisingly, then that sometimes the state of the file system on the memory card
can get damaged.
This may happen for a number of different reasons, including:
> removing the card from a device whilst an application is trying to read/write to it.. (Just be
patient...)
> battery drain on a device whilst in use meaning an insufficent voltage failure whilst writing
to
the card.
> a poor implementation of the MMC standard on the device using the card
> poor connectivity software drivers on the device or the Windows PC/Mac
> physical damage like card or device being dropped, bent, getting wet etc...
> lots of others i am sure..
As often as not, the problem is not terminal for your memory card, but just a software issue (
or
in physical terms, it could be called "a temporary disalignment of the all the bits and bytes on
the
card").
The fix for this problem is the same as for any other file storage device (like a floppy or hard
drive) with corrupt or invalid file system, namely; re-format the file system.
Re-Formatting your MobyMemory MMC Card:
It is possible that your mobile will offer you the option of formatting the memory card if it is
found
to be invalid. (However, the likes of Nokia nGage, Nokia 6600, and Siemens Sx1 often just
prefer to reject the media as corrupted).
In that case, to format the card, you will need access to one or more of the following:
> A Windows PC or Mac.
> A separate multi-format memory card reader (verify that it is compatible with the
MultiMediaCard -MMC- standard).
> (This can come in USB or PCMCIA flavours. If USB, try and ensutre it is a USB2 device.
> Alternatively, many of the newest laptop and desktop PCs now come with integrated
Multiformat
memory card readers.
> If you are using a separate memory card reader, then connect it up to your PC, and let
windows recgnize the device through plug-and-play.
Now you can insert your MobyMemory card into the appropriate slot in the memory card
reader.
(Please note that because the MMC card is pretty much symmetrical it is very easy to insert
it
upside-down in the slot).
Open up [Windows Explorer] (or the equivalent for MAC users..sorry not well-versed in OS
X).
There should be at least one icon visible for a [Removable Drive] in the list of available
drives.
(in fact, there is often a list of about 5 or 6 Removable drives, one for each of the different
Memory card formats that your reader is compatible with).
Find the drive that is mapped to the MMC card by clicking on each in turn until it confirms
there
is a drive present. (Sometimes it is easiest to do this by trying a fully-functional MMC card in
the
MMC slot first so you can confirm which drive letter it is.)
(NB. It will always be labelled as a [Removable Drive], don't mistake it for one of your PC
hard
drives like [C:] drive, as that could be catastrophic later on!)
At this stage it may give an error message saying that the drive is unreadable.
By right-clicking on the drive letter, it will provide the option of formatting the drive.
Select format the drive, and the [Format Drive] dialog will appear (Double-check again to
make
sure it not your [C:] drive!).
There is only one setting to focus on in this page, and that is to ensure that the FileSystem
selected for formatting is the [FAT] option (not FAT32, or NTFS or any other option)
(Note: All mobile phones, to my knowledge, and most cameras (etc..) use the FAT file
system
(or at least are compatible with it) on their memory card media.)
Now click on Format Now ( ensure [Quick Format] is not selected as this will not actually
restore
the file system space byte by byte, but only resets the header information so the drive thinks
its
empty again. This may not be enought to solve your corruption problem.)
The PC will now - hopefully!- chug away happily until it has restored the memory card space
back to its original configuration (of course, any information on there is long gone by now!).
If you recieve an error message back from the [Format Now] request, then your problem
may be
more permanent, and not just a software issue. In this case, it may still respond to a format
request in a different memory card reader or device.
If you believe it to be a failure of manufacture, then the warranty on the card offers the
prospect
of a replacement card, subject to a confirmation of the fault upon return of the goods.

FExplorer Tips & Tricks
* How to reset the operator logo :
1) go to the following dir :
c:\system\apps\phone\oplogo
2) delete any file in this directory
3) restart the phone
* to make a screenshot on a Nokia 3650, 6600 :
1) use the pencil key + '0'
* to make a screenshot on a SX1 :
1) use the shift key + '0'
* remember, there are some shortcuts :
<KeyPad 1> : copy
<KeyPad 4> : cut
<KeyPad 7> : paste
<KeyPad *> : go to root
<KeyPad 3> : PageUp
<KeyPad 6> : top of the list
<KeyPad 9> : PageDown
<KeyPad #> : file properties
* 'send command' fails new firmware
with some new firmware, some users have reported that the 'send command' (thru bluetooth,
IR,
...) fails; it's due to a 'copyrigth protection' introduced in the new OS (!!!!), this happens only
with
some kind of files (eg: .SIS), in such case, simply rename the file (eg: wtih .SIS_ ) before
trying
to send them.

Can't Uninstall Applications via Manager?
When you cant uninstall an application(most of the time Java games) using the Manager
function of the phone, then do this;
1. Install FExplorer.
2. Launch it and goto the path/folder of the Application. I'm assuming you have install it to
the
MMC so the path would be something like,
E:\system\apps
and you will see lots of folders in there that is only labelled by numbers(for Java
games/apps) or
the name of the application. Go though them one by one. Open the text file in that folder to
exactly know the name of the application in that particular folder if you dont see any icons or
familiar name.
3. Then if its the correct folder, "move-out" of the folder, click on Options>File>Delete.
4. Then goto the Manager to uninstall it if its still listed.
5. Reboot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know IR is old skool but hey, it comes handy at times especially when BT acts-up on you
This procedure assumes that the infrared device is connected to a serial port on your
computer.
Use this procedure only if Windows did not automatically install an infrared device when you
turned on your computer. Typically, Universal Serial Bus (USB), PCMCIA, and other Plug
and
Play-compliant infrared devices are automatically detected and installed.
To add a new infrared device:
01. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add Hardware.
02. The Add Hardware Wizard starts.
03. Click Next.
04. Click Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then click Next.
05. In the Installed hardware list, click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
06. Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), and then click
Next.
07. In the Common hardware types box, click Infrared devices, and then click Next.
Do one of the following:
01. If you do not have an installation disk for the infrared device, click the manufacturer of
the
device in the Manufacturer list, click the infrared device that best matches your hardware in
the
Infrared Device list, and then click Next.
02. If you have a manufacturer's installation disk for a compatible driver, click Have Disk.
Insert
the manufacturer's installation disk into the appropriate drive, and then click Next.
Follow the instructions that are displayed on the remaining pages of the Add Hardware
Wizard
to install the infrared device.
View the Properties of an Infrared Device
To use this procedure, there must be an infrared device installed on your computer. Note
that
the settings for the infrared device are configured automatically when you install the device,
and

Configure a Serial Port for Infrared Communication
Your computer must support an infrared mode for a serial port. Use this procedure to install
an
IrDA transceiver that is provided by the computer manufacturer. To configure a serial port for
infrared communication:
01. Start the BIOS configuration utility for your computer. Note that the method for starting
the
BIOS configuration utility varies from one computer to another. For many computers, you
can
start the BIOS configuration utility by pressing a function key that is indicated during the
computer startup process. Some computers require that you start by using special
configuration
disks. For more information about how to enter BIOS Setup, see your computer
manufacturer's
documentation.
02. In the peripheral or serial port configuration section, change the mode to IrDA or Infrared.
Troubleshooting
Installing an IrDA transceiver disables the serial port. Do not attach a serial IrDA transceiver
to a
serial port.
