NOTE: The answer for the Web Activity (TASK A & TASK B) should be submitted in the Topic 9 dropbox on
Moodle by the end of Week 10 by all ONLINE/BLENDED MODE STUDENTS.
Use the T9 MS Word document template to Task A–Part 1 & 2 and Task B-Part 2 & 4. Please ensure to
complete Topic 9 Lesson first and Create an EndNote account to be able to successfully complete this activity.

TASK A: Time required to complete Task A: 30mins


- Devising Search Strategies
- Searching and retrieving articles using ProQuest Database
- Importing references from ProQuest database into EndNote

This activity is based on the topic provided below. If ProQuest is not accessible then please
use an alternative scholarly database like JSTOR, EBSCOhost or Web of Science.

Research Topic:

"Discuss the importance of digital and information literacy in the


information age"

1. Using the tabular format provided in the web activity template, identify the Task, Topic
and Focus words and its synonyms or related terms.

2. Develop search strategies and conduct a ProQuest Advanced Search to locate three
relevant full-text and peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles pertaining to the research
topic above. Discuss your search strategy and number of results using the tabular
format in the web activity template.

3. Email one of the three articles in pdf format to your student email account. Login to your
student email account and check if you have received the article that you had emailed to
yourself. Take a screenshot of this and paste in your MS Word Document (make sure
your student number is visible in the email snapshot). (Click the window you want to
capture. Press Alt+Print Screen by holding down the Alt key and then pressing the Print
Screen key. The Print Screen key is near the upper-right corner of your keyboard. Right
Click and paste the screenshot in the image place holder section of the web activity
template).

4. Import the records of two other journal articles from ProQuest into EndNote that appeared
in the search list pertaining to the given research topic. (Refer to EndNote Guide in topic
lesson). Create an EndNote Web Account if you haven’t already done so and sign in.

TASK B: Using Endnote to manage/format/import references Time required to complete Task B: 20mins

1. Manually create references for the following information resources using EndNote web.

2. Create a new group and name the group ‘Topic 9’. Add the three references that you have
manually created in Part B - Task 1 to this group. Move the two references from Part A -
Task 4 to this Topic 9 group as well. Take a screenshot of the created references in
Endnote and paste it in image placeholder in the web activity template.
*(Make sure your username is visible in the screenshot to be awarded the mark).

3. Format and export your ‘Topic 9’ citations in MLA citation style. Save the reference list
as RTF in WORD. Append this reference list to the to the text-box placeholder in the web
activity template.

4. Your solutions file is to be named according to your student ID number followed by


underscore then Topic 9 e.g. SXXXXXXXX_T9. Ensure to submit on Moodle using the
Topic 9 Web Activity Dropbox by Saturday 29th May – 11:55pm (FJT) for Online and
Blended mode students.
