How To Configure Robert Shaw Velocity/Acceleration Monitor Model 566 ?

This document provides instructions for configuring a Robert Shaw Velocity/Acceleration Monitor Model 566. It describes setting the input signal to velocity mode with a low range, allowing the vibration to normalize, setting alarm #1 to the maximum set point and adjusting the dial until the alarm trips to determine the corresponding set point value using a provided graph, and setting alarm #2 above alarm #1 without a time delay. It also notes that calibration may need to be repeated after motor overhauls or fan pitch angle changes.

How to configure Robert Shaw Velocity/Acceleration Monitor Model

566 ?
1. Start the motor in field and let it run till the vibration normalizes.
2. Input Signal is Set at Velocity mode with Low Range i.e. 0 to 1.5 Inch/sec. dip switches.

3. Once the vibration has normalized. Set the selector switch of Alarm #1 Set point to Maximum
i.e. 100%.
4. Slowly turn the dial Counter Clockwise till Alarm trip indicator turns ON. Note this value on the
dial. Let’s call it ‘A%’.
5. Now look at the graph below to see that the value observed i.e. A% corresponds to what value
on the X-Axis.(Follow the optimum Line).
6. The corresponding value in your final Alarm#1 setting of Dial.

Example: the Alarm came at 50%

dial value, the corresponding X-
axis value is 60%, which is your
setting.

7. Please note that TD i.e. Time delay dial

corresponds to Alam#1 Setting. So in order to
add delay in trip, we will set the time delay. Here
we have kept it at 9 secs. The purpose is to
allow the unit to ignore the transitory vibrations
experienced during start-ups etc. This TD setting
is done after Alarm#1 setting and should be set
slightly higher than the anticipated start up
time.

8. Alarm #2 set point is used for instantaneous tripping. It should be set at Value above Alarm Set
point #1. This has NO time delay function.
Example: Previously we calculated 60% of
Alarm #1 Set point value. Corresponding
Alarm #2 set point on the X-Axis of this
graph is 80%.

Robert Saw should be calibrated after every Motor overhaul or

any change in pitch angle of fan etc. as the initial vibration
changes and so does Alam#1 and Alarm #2 set points.
