On successful completion of the course, students will be able to
CO1: Describe the basic principle of image acquisition and imaging components
CO2: Discuss the fundamentals of image processing and image enhancement
CO3: Explain the use of high-level vision algorithms for specific purpose.
CO4: Explain the object recognition and feature detection in imaging
CO5: Recall the various applications of robot involving vision system

IMAGING COMPONENTS 9
Basic Components - Elements of visual perception: structure of human eye, image
formation in the eye – pinhole cameras - color cameras – image formation model –
imaging components and illumination techniques - picture coding – basic relationship
between pixels - Camera-Computer interfaces.
ELEMENTS OF IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES 10

Image representation – gray level transformations, Histogram equalization,


image subtraction, image averaging – Filters: smoothing spatial filters,
sharpening spatial filters, smoothing frequency domain filters, sharpening
frequency domain filters - edge detection
HIGH LEVEL VISION ALGORITHMS 10
Segmentation: Edge linking and boundary detection, Thresholding, Region-oriented
segmentation, the use of motion – Description: Boundary Descriptors, Regional
Descriptors, Recognition: Decision-Theoretic methods, structural methods.
OBJECT RECOGNITION 8
Object recognition, Approaches to Object Recognition, Recognition by combination of
views – objects with sharp edges, using two views only, using a single view, use of dept
values
ROBOT VISION APPLICATION 8
Applications-automated navigation guidance by vision system - vision based
depalletizing - line tracking - automatic part recognition - image processing techniques
implementation through image processing software – MATLAB / OPENCV

Case Studies:
1. MATLAB/OpenCV program for Image Smoothening and Sharpening
2. MATLAB/OpenCV program for Edge Detection using Sobel, Prewitt and Roberts
Operators.
3. MATLAB/OpenCV program for Morphological Operations on Binary Images.
