Online Viewer User Guide.
 Work Offline

In STEP 2 or STEP 3, you set the remote library by checking the box of This is a Remote
Library. With this setting, whenever you open a book and a page of the book, the LinkOne
Viewer tries to reach the remote library through the Internet so that you may view the latest
parts books in remote server.

NOTE
Viewing the Remote Library through internet makes LinkOne Viewer a much slower tool
than viewing the parts books on your local hard disk. If you want to use LinkOne Viewer
much faster, you had better open the parts books stored before on your local hard disk not
the remote library by going through the procedure below.

1. To select the Work Offline, click the File on the main menu bar.

2. On the File menu, click Work Offline.

3. Now you are connected to the parts books on your local hard disk.

 Using the Online Manual

the Viewer. There is more information about these and additional features in the following
online manuals, Administration Guide and Viewer User Guide.

1. On the File menu, click Open Book then Click Browse.

2. Click the LinkOne Manuals folder.

3. Select the title of the manual you want to view and click Open Book.

NOTE

 Administration Guide.
This online manual is part of the Administration software.
It provides information for those who have to install or configure LinkOne software.

 Viewer User Guide.

This online manual is part of the LinkOne System. It provides information for those
who use LinkOne on a day to day basis as part of their jobs.
To access this manual, form the Viewer Help menu, click Online manual.
The Viewer User Guide contains detailed information about, working with parts books,
finding and selecting list entries, using Notes, printing, customising Selection Lists and
the parts list display.
STEP 5. Robot Utility

This Robot Utility changes the parts books on your hard disk to the latest parts books. To update
your local parts books data, your computer should be connected to the remote server through
the Internet. Before running the Robot, you should make sure that the robot setting in LinkOne
Administration is done. In the robot setting you can set the period of time when the books will be
automatically updated. For the detailed robot setting, please refer to STEP 2 or STEP 3.

 Starting the Robot

NOTE
When the robot is first started, it immediately attempts to update your local books.
The requirement for updating of your local books is determined by carrying out a
comparison of your book’s file stored locally with the latest book’s file stored at the remote
server. If the files are different, your files will be updated in accordance with the Robot
Settings in LinkOne Administration.

1. Start LinkOne Viewer ; on the Windows task bar, click Start then point to Programs, then
LinkOne Version 4, then click Robot.
2. The result of clicking the robot program may be one of the two examples below.
3. To set Start time and Stop time, click Stop button.

NOTE
When the updating task is completed, the robot then goes into sleep mode for a maximum
of ten minutes or until the user presses the stop button.
If the Stop button is pressed, then the Robot comes out of sleep mode, and allows you to
make changes to the robot settings. Pressing the Start button again will direct the Robot to
update any books required and then go back into Sleep Mode.
If you did not press the Stop button, then the Robot would come out of Sleep Mode after
ten minutes, and again try and update any books, and when complete, would go back into
Sleep Mode again. It will repeat this cycle, until the Stop button is pressed.

4. Enter Start Time, Stop Time and Report location you want in the text boxes referring the note
below.
NOTE
The settings specified in the Robot program determine when the Robot can update books,
and when it should stop updating books. When setting the Start and Stop time of the
Robot, you should set them up to the values which suit for your environment the best.
Generally you would set the Robot to run at night when no one is using the machine, by
setting, for example, the Start Time to 18:00 (6:00PM) and the Stop Time to 7:00. When
you then start the robot, it will only be allowed to update books between 6:00PM and
7:00AM, and the rest of the day, it will spend sleeping.
Using the example above, the typical robot process is as follows:

 Between 6:00PM and 7:00AM (Active Period)

: This is the active period. The robot will check to see if there are any books which
need to be updated using the settings configured in the LinkOne Administration
program. If there are, then the Robot updates the required books, until the task is
complete. The robot then goes to sleep for 10 minutes. When robot wakes up, it
checks to see if it is still in the 6:00PM to 7:00AM time zone, and if it is then it repeats
the process. If it is not then it goes into the idle period described in the next paragraph.

 Between 7:00AM and 6:00PM (Idle Period)

: This is set as the idle period, so the Robot sleeps for ten minutes, then wakes up, and
checks if it is still in the idle period between 7:00AM and 6:00PM. It it is then it goes
back to sleep for another ten minutes. If it is not then it goes into the active period
described in the paragraph above. During the idle period, the robot does not attempt to
update any books.

The important thing to note in this instance, is that the program will still run for 24
hours/day, but it will only attempt to download books in the 18:00 - 7:00 time frame.
Outside of this time frame, it does nothing except sleep (in 10 minute blocks).

5. Click Start button to start to update your books after the settings.
NOTE
It may happen that the updating task finishes without reaching the end of the Progress bar
under specific circumstances. This is a simple user Interface phenomenon, which has
nothing to do with the effectiveness of the Robot.

6. If it is in the active period, then the Robot updates the required books, until the task is
complete. When completing the task, the robot then goes to sleep for 10 minutes.

NOTE
Sleep Mode is a period up to ten minutes long, which the Robot waits before attempting to
see if there are any book pages which need to be updated.
Note that while the Robot is in Sleep Mode, setting the system clock forward will not bring
the Robot out of Sleep Mode any earlier. This is because the Robot uses a Windows API
call which returns after a specified time period, and is not based on clock time.
