R.E Construction : It’s Now or Never

Introduction

As Engineer Romeo Estabillio’s construction firm flourishes and is slowly making


a name for itself, he is currently facing a dilemma in deciding to hire 4 additional full-
time employees for his construction firm. He is hesitant about what course of action to
take under these circumstances by which failure to choose the right decision, will be
detrimental for the status as well as productivity of his construction firm. On the process,
he may realize his shortcomings, loose valuable customers and on the worse case
scenario loose a handful of workforce which could be harmful for the incoming revenues
of his firm. This analysis of such case will result on suggesting related course of action
in order to prevent the downfall of his construction firm.

Recommendation

There are many vital actions that Engr. Estabillio can take, one of which is
enhancing his ability to face current dilemma by improving his management skills by
taking up further studies related to engineering management and business related
courses which can help him decide on things which are economically advantageous for
his firm. As he is not confident in deciding on which course of action to take, he may
have as well doubts in his own ability and competency as an engineer and it can be
improve by enhancing his engineering knowledge by taking up masters degree and
pursue doctorate degree in engineering. Having attained such competency and skills,
he should be able to be confident enough in his ability as engineer and authority as the
boss of the firm. Improving his ability isn’t enough, he should also watch out for
possible competitors for his firm which can lessen the demand for his services and
constantly improve what is lacking and missing in the services he is offering and the
price range of his service. By correctly managing this, he can also attract more potential
customers. In the issue of workforce, he should also consider the amount of salary his
employees have and compare them to the salary your competitors are offering to
prevent them from potentially leaving your construction firm. Offering them incentives,
bonuses, and even salary increase can prevent them from leaving from your firm.
Moreover, what Engr. Estabillio really needs is ample time, right planning, proper skills
and confidence to decide wither he will or will not add another set of employees.

Rationale

As a manager, boss, business man , and successful engineer Engr. Estabillio


should be fully equipped with competency, knowledge, skills, and confidence to
successfully manage his business firm which can only attained by ample amount of
education and experience. Considering factors such as demand and workforce and
negating it’s future effects can help improve the status of the firm. Moreover, deciding
on adding new fulltime employees is not a bad thing if the manager or the owner is
already been equipped the right amount of knowledge and experience. A good leader
knows when to decide wither to take risks or just play it safe but on the other hand a
good leader should also learn to gamble when he has the upper hand which means that
he should take risks with precautions and ahead of time preparations of what is coming
to prevent the downfall of the firm he is managing.
