Methodology: Image of An Oxer Vertical of A Horse Jump
There is many changing variables that will together give a complete set of data.
Two horses are going to be used. The horses are of different height, which should result in
different data.
There are also going to be two different kind of jumps, the oxer and the vertical. Because
these jumps have a different width it will be interesting to see how that effects data.
The height of the jumps will also be adjusted. The height of the jump will need to stay a
specific parameter. For example, a jump of height 20cm will not give any useful data and a
jump of height 130cm will be extremely high. (ethics are taken into consideration, horses at
Olympic level jump at 160cm, however I will not even get close to that because I will have
enough data from below 130cm)
It is predicted that when a horse jumps over a different heights that the area under the graph
will be the same. This is probably because when the jump is lower, my horse would probably
take off a lot further from the jump and the jump would be a lot flatter (lower to the ground).
However, when the jump is higher the horse will need to go up more, meaning his take-off
should be closer to the jump.
After having gathered all the data I will use graphs to plot the parabolas. I can use LoggerPro
to model the graph using the video’s I am making. I can then use integration to find the area
under the curve. To do this I will need the equation of the parabola, which I will acquire
using measurement that I will make of the jump and the distance and LoggerPro can also help
with the equation.
