Welcome Message
Greetings! You are about to learn Computer Systems Servicing specialization of
Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track.
We are providing you with self-learning modules that will guide you in acquiring the
relevant knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to perform the tasks in Computer
Systems Servicing specialization at your own pace and time. The lessons are divided
based on the four core competencies of Computer Systems Servicing, namely: Core
1 – Installing and Configuring Computer Systems (ICCS), Core 2 – Setting-up
Computer Networks (SUCN), Core 3 – Setting-up Computer Servers (SUCS), and
Core 4 – Maintaining and Repairing Computer Systems and Networks (MRCSN).
These core lessons are sectioned into smaller topics that can be finished in a week’s
time.
You need to go through all the parts of the module to ensure that you will be
equipped with the necessary information and skills for achieving the competencies in
Computer Systems Servicing. Here are the different parts of the CSS module:

Starter
Welcome to Quarter 3 Module 3! In the previous module, you have learned the
procedures in installing Operating Systems and Application Software. In this module, you
will learn on how to conduct stress test and documentation.

Objectives
At the end of this module, you should be able to:

• Test devices/ systems and/or installation to determine whether it conforms

to requirements TLE_IACSS9- 12ICCS-IIIf-j-32

• Conduct stress test to ensure reliability of equipment in accordance with

the manufacturer’s and systems requirements TLE_IACSS9- 12ICCS-IIIf-
j-32

• Follow 5S and 3Rs according to environmental policies TLE_IACSS9-

12ICCS-IIIf-j-32

• Follow procedures in forwarding documentation to appropriate personnel

and/or authority on the test conducted TLE_IACSS9- 12ICCS-IIIf-j-32

Identification. Read the questions carefully and select the correct answer among the
options below. Write the chosen letter on a separate sheet of paper.

1. It is a test that determines the strength and stability of the computer.

a. Stress Test
b. Lab test
c. Quality Check
d. Operational Testing
2. Which statement is true?
a. Adding RAM will make the performance of your PC slower.
b. Sweeping is part of 5S methodology of management.
3. Creating another product out of one is called______________.
a. Reuse
b. Reduce
c. Recycle
d. Repeat
4. Eqbgvj

Vocabulary List

Learning Activities

Every product before it comes out to market must undergo a process called
Quality Check or QC. This is where the checking of product takes place. Same goes
with computers. Every computer or device may it be new or aging systems must
undergo stress testing. But first, let’s try to understand what a stress test is and what it
has to do with our computer devices.

Stress test puts computer hardware under high levels of stress to ensure
stability when the components are being used. It can also determine the potential
problems that may took place as you use your PC.

Stress testing may be done to the different components of your PC. There are
also lots of programs that you can use in conducting stress test. Most of them have the
same features with minimal difference.

 CPU or the Central Processing Unit

How to Stress Test a Computer

4
1. Close all open programs.
2. Right click the bottom bar (taskbar) on a windows computer and select task
manager.
3. If you have a slow internet connection and were looking to test a network
intensive program, use the networking tab info; otherwise select the
performance tab.

If ever you PC fail the stress test, the following are some of the possible
reasons that can easily be resolved:

1. Lack of Cooling – your CPU fan may not be enough to cool down your
processor. It may need some fan upgrade as a solution
2. Dust – your CPU fan might be clogged with dust. You may try to vacuum or
use a brush to remove the dusts
3. Aging hardware – these are the PCs which specifications (specs) are not up
to date or might be overclocked such as those used for gamings and video
renderings for more or less five years. You might considering upgrading your
PC.
4. Outdated drivers or BIOS versions -
In order to increase the performance of your PC, you may add more RAM. This will
increase the speed and capacity of your PC to hold data …… While conducting the
stress test, you must always apply the 3Rs and 5S methodology but what are these?

3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE

The 3R principle is the order of priority of actions to be taken to reduce the

amount of waste generated and to improve overall waste management processes and
programs. Application of this principle is necessary to ensure efficiency and quality
output.

1. Reduce – Try to lessen the amount of waste you produce

2. Reuse – think of ways you could reuse something

3. Recycle – This enables the materials you throw away to be used again by making
them into new products.

5
5s METHODOLOGY

5S is a methodology for workplace organization which uses a list of five Japanese words
wherein

1. Sort (Seiri) – sorting through all items and removing all clutter and unnecessary
items in your workplace.

2. Set in Order (Seiton) – arranging or putting all necessary items in the best
position
for fulfilling their function in the workplace. It is proper organization of tools
and equipment by having a designated place

3. Shine/Sweep (Seiso) – it is organized effective cleaning in your workplace. It is

keeping your workplace clean by conducting regular maintenance or
routine tasks such as mopping, dusting, wiping of tools and the like.

4. Standardize (Seiketsu) – setting up standards and specifications, applying

policies
on how things are to be done in the workplace.

5. Sustain (Shitsuke) – sustain the developed processes by self-discipline of the

workers. Regular application of the first 4S.

Recap

The 3R Principle of Waste Management

1. Reduce
2. Reuse
3. Recycle

The 5S Methodology
1. Seiri
2. Seiso

6
3. Seiton
4. Seiketsu
5. Shitsuke

Conclusion

It makes a big difference to recycle. It makes a big

difference to use recycled products. It makes a big
difference to reuse things, to not use the paper cup
– and each time you do, that’s a victory.
~ Emily Deschanel

And that’s all for the top 10 common computer problems and their solutions. These
problems can occur in day-to-day life and can be very frustrating. Some of them can be
easily fixed by yourself, whereas in some cases, these common problems can prove to
be serious ones.

There are many computer problems that may occur from time to time. The best way to
solve this is to read the PC/Device manual for the procedures that may be helpful to
troubleshoot such kind of malfunctions.

Self-Check No. 1
TRUE or FALSE. In a separate sheet of paper, write your name and number from 1-5.
Write TRUE is the statement is correct and FALSE if it is incorrect.

1. A computer may keep on restarting because of faulty hardware.

2. Normally, CPU fan stops spinning when the CPU temperatures are low.
3. If your PC is a desktop computer and doesn’t start, check that it’s not the plug
socket at fault by plugging it into a different socket.
4. Slow Internet is cause by internal and external issue.
5. In one computer problem, there are many cause and probable solutions.
