Attitude and Behavior

Summary

Attitudes are evaluating statements or judgements concerning objects, people or events, either

favorable or unfavorable. Attitude is that how we react if something happened with us or near to

us. There are three components of attitude. First, cognitive component is that; the opinion and

belief segment of an attitude. In this component, simply we understand a person through our

opinion, based on our general knowledge; cognitive component is relate with thinking process.

Secondly, affective component is that: the emotional or feeling segment of an attitude. In

affective component, how we feel the things or objects. Third, behavioral component is that: an

intention to behave in a certain way toward someone or something. Simply we say that the

behavioral component is that how we act, respond or behave on things. Research on attitude

assume that, attitude and behavior are relate with each other. Behavior is a way in which a

person act or response to a particular situation. If a person behavior change than its attitude is

also change. When you argued with your friend on something and you see that, his attitude is

critical that affect is cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is any incompatibility between

two or more attitudes or between attitudes and behavior. No individual can avoid dissonance. To

reduce the dissonance, we give importance to object which create dissonance, influence we

believe we have over the elements and rewards of dissonance. The most powerful moderators of

the attitudes relationship are the importance of the attitude, its correspondence to behavior.

Attitude is different on job as compare to daily life. Job satisfaction: a positive feeling about

one’s job resulting from an evaluation of its characteristics. When a person know that, its job is

secure, its attitude will change and he is satisfy with his job. His mind will be positive during the

job. Job involvement the degree to which a person identifies with a job, actively participates in it,

and considers performance important to self-worth. When a person satisfy with his job, he easily

understand his work, he involve himself in his work, he participate in all activities to complete

his task just because of attitude, because he satisfy with his job and that change its attitude.

Psychological empowerment employees’ belief in the degree to which they affect their work

environment, their competence, the meaningfulness of their job, and their perceived autonomy in

their work. Organizational commitment the degree to which an employee identifies with a

particular organization and its goals and wishes to maintain membership in the organization.

When an employee understand its organization, identify itself, and identify what organizational

goals are? Than he will participate in organization activity to achieve its goals and to maintain its

good position in the organization. Perceived organizational support is the degree to which

employees believe the organization values their contributions and cares about their well-being.

Perceived organizational support is important in countries where the power distance, the degree

to which people in a country accept that power in institutions and organizations is distributed

unequally. The people think that they are not treat equally. Employee engagement is an

individual’s involvement with, satisfaction with, and enthusiasm for the work he or she does. To

evaluate engagement, we might ask employees whether they have access to resources and

opportunities to learn new skills. The entire job attitude are different from each other. However,

some components of job attitude change the behavior of employee.
