Ms. Erlendson Wednesday, March 8th at 1:00pm. There will be a number of other activities throughout the
Office Manager- school, as well as in various classrooms as we prepare ourselves for Holy Week and celebrate
the season of Lent. An example is going to be the movies we all watch as a school on Wednes-

March is an important month for our grade 8 students. They are busily preparing and
making decisions regarding their High School registrations. There grade 8 Farewell photos will
be taken the morning of Monday March 14th so all the grade 8s must make sure they arrive at
school with big smiles on their faces that morning! Our grade 8 class will also be spending the
School morning of Tuesday, March 29th at the church for a half day retreat. It is a great month to be in
Mission grade 8!
Statement Report cards go out on Wednesday, March 23rd. There are no scheduled interview times
for this report period. However, if you have any questions please feel free to contact your

them carefully with your son or daughter. The information contained in the report cards help
our students to identify their areas of strength, as well as providing direction in areas where fur-
ther growth is required.

As part of our involvement in the Holy Childhood Association at St. Joan of Arc we are
community,
working at bringing our involvement to life for our students. One of our school goals this year
so that in Christ was to provide our students with an opportunity to be actively involved in making the global
we learn community a better place. To do this we are not only providing financial support for the efforts
(academic excel- of the Holy Childhood Association but also giving of our time to our community. Please look
for information that will be coming out soon that will be letting you know of the action plan
lence) and grow
that your child’s class is going to be involved. The plans are varied and geared towards the age
(demonstrating
of the students. We are very excited about this initiative! As the Chinese proverb says, “Tell me
Gospel values). and I forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand.”
The school year is flying by! It is hard to believe that we are well over half way
through. It is always exciting working with the student’s of our school and you, our commu-
nity! I am looking forward to the last four months of the year and as Charlie Brown said, “In
the book of life, the answers aren’t in the back.” How true! This makes all of our lives chal-
lenging and at the same time exciting and rewarding!! Keep your fingers crossed for spring to
come soon and take care!

To continue this kindness as we enter the Lenten season and are reminded to think of others more than
ourselves, we plan to hold our Penny Drive once again in support of the Holy Childhood Association.
Starting the week of March 28th and ending with an Assembly on Friday, April 8th, we are asking
students to bring in their spare change, in any denomination they wish, to support our Pie-in-the-Face
Fundraiser. For every $100.00 raised, a staff member’s face will be added to the wall in the gym and they
will be on the roster to receive a pie in the face at the Assembly, on Friday, April 8th.
More information will be included with your child’s report card this month. We thank you for your
anticipated support.

The season of Lent begins on Wednesday, March 9th. This six week preparation period for Easter provides
parents with a wonderful opportunity to pass on the faith to their children. Traditionally Lent has been a
time for the practices of prayer, fasting and alms-giving. The church doesn’t require children younger than
14 to fast. However, it does encourage even young children to pray and give alms to the less fortunate. A
fun way of getting your children into the Lenten spirit is to have a pre-Lenten party where you say
goodbye to the Alleluia (which will not be sung throughout Lent) and you pop balloons to discover what
your family Lenten practices will be during Lent. Have the entire family write down on small slips of
paper some possible Lenten practices such as: we will pray before each meal, we will give part of our
allowance each week to the poor, we will do our chores around the house without complaining, we will
spend less time playing video games, online or watching TV and more time together as a family. Put the
slips of paper into balloons, blow the balloons up and tie them, and then at your pre-Lenten party, have
your family break the balloons. The paper that each family member gets becomes their Lenten practice.
(You can get a copy of this entire activity/prayer service by requesting one from Miles Meyers at
[email protected]). Have a blessed Lent
