Assignment#4

The film "Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes" explores gender as both biologically determined and socially constructed through the story of two wives, Lianne and Cindy Reyes, married to husbands Gary and Felix respectively. Both husbands engage in an affair with each other despite being married to women. This highlights that gender and sexuality exist on a spectrum rather than strictly as male/female or homosexual/heterosexual. The document discusses how the film touched on respecting people for who they are, regardless of gender or sexuality, while also condemning deception and cheating in relationships.

REFLECTION: ANG DALAWANG MRS. REYES

According to the Bible, men are made only for women vice versa. This movie shows the variety
of sexuality besides of gender at birth (male and female only). Lianne and Cindy Reyes are the
wives of Gary and Felix respectively. Both women thereof are heterosexuals which refers of the
people who are attracted to opposite sex. On the other hand, their husband are homosexuals
which are opposite of the definition mentioned earlier; they are attracted to people of their same
sex. It just happens to be that their husbands (Lianne and Cindy) have an affair behind their back.
Despite of being married, both their husbands fight for their love and even participated to the
LGBTQ+ event to express their sexuality. Why did I classify the husbands as heterosexuals and
not as bisexuals since they are both married to women? In point of view, if you really love
someone, you won’t cheat on them. I think husbands are not really in love to their wives in the
first place even the marriage actually happen. Marriage in the first place is a life time
commitment, not just an fancy event in our lives.

Personally, I do respect LGBTQ+ because they are born that way. No matter what we do, they
are what they are. Regardless of gender, we shouldn’t deceive other people just for our own
happiness. I think the husbands should’ve been honest to what they feel. I’m not being biased
just because of me, being heterosexual. For me, it’s just moral standards that everyone should be
practice for humanity. No one deserves to be cheated on. As said by the golden rule, don’t do to
others that you don’t want others do unto you. Some people might see these two wives as
desperate women who are so in love to people that is impossible to be theirs. In my opinion, I
empathized them because I can feel the pain they feel just to fix their marriage.
