PASSAGES OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP TO GOD

"Therefore I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God ‐ this is your spiritual act of worship." ‐ Romans 12:1

Suggested Use: The Bible is full of examples of various forms of true worship of God. Try
praying through a few of these each day and asking the Holy Spirit to give you His thoughts on
each one.

GLORIFY GOD
Psalm 29:2: Ascribe (attribute) to the LORD the glory (splendor; magnificence) due his
name; worship the LORD in the splendor (brilliance; eminence) of his holiness. (perfect
in purity, integrity and moral character).
Psalm 86:12
I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify (to praise; to magnify
and honor in worship) your name forever.
I Chronicles 16:2: After David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings (as an
atonement for sin. The offerings of the Jews were a clean animal, as an ox, a calf, a goat,
or sheep; or some species of vegetable substance, as bread and ears of wheat or barley)
and fellowship offerings (presented as a return of thanks for his favors), he blessed (to
express a wish or desire of happiness) the people in the name of the LORD

EXALT GOD
Psalm 99:5: Exalt (to elevate; to magnify; to praise) the LORD our God and worship (to
adore; to reverence with supreme respect) at his footstool (place of complete
submission); he is holy.
Deuteronomy 10:17: For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the
great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
(omnipotent: having unlimited power) (The words of Moses to the children of Israel
when God gave them the 10 Commandments the second time)

PRAISE GOD
Psalm 103:2‐5:
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his blessings:

He forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,

He redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,

He satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Psalm 22:3: Yet you are enthroned (placed on a royal seat) as the Holy One; you are
the praise of Israel.

Psalm 8: A psalm of David
1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory

because of your enemies,

the work of your fingers,

PSALM 23

HONOR GOD

I Samuel 2:30
Those who honor (expression of respect or of high estimation by words or actions) me I
will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.

REVERENCE FOR GOD
Psalm 95:6
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
Nehemiah 8:6c: Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their
hands and responded, "Amen! Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the
LORD with their faces to the ground
Hebrews 5:7: During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and
petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save him from death, and he
was heard because of his reverent submission. (Note: this is a key to Christ’s victorious
living – the degree of earnestness in His prayer life.)
GIVE THANKS TO GOD
Psalm 100:4b: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks
to him and praise his name.
Psalm 31:21: Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I
was in a besieged city.
I Thessalonians 5:16‐18: Be joyful always; 17pray continually; 18give thanks in all
circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 6:4‐10: Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way:

and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6in purity, understanding,
patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; 7in truthful speech and in

REMEMBER GOD’S ACTS
Psalm 150:2: Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Deuteronomy 5:15: Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your
God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore
the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

Nehemiah 8:3,5: He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square
before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could
understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.

Psalm 66:13‐15: 13 I will come to your temple with burnt offerings
and fulfill my vows to you‐ 14 vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke
when I was in trouble.

and an offering of rams;
I will offer bulls and goats.

Malachi 3: 2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he
appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. 3 He will sit as a
refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and
silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, 4 and
the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone
by, as in former years.

ROBBING GOD

"I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever
since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not
kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD Almighty.
"But you ask, 'How are we to return?'

"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
"But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' (Note: we also rob God by desiring praise
and recognition when He tells us to humbly give Him ALL of the glory)
"In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—
because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there
may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will
not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will
not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the
vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. 12 "Then all the
nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD
Almighty.

"You have said harsh things against me," says the LORD.
"Yet you ask, 'What have we said against you?'

"You have said, 'It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out his
requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty? 15 But now
we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly the evildoers prosper, and even those who
challenge God escape.' "

Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and
heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who
feared the LORD and honored his name.

"They will be mine," says the LORD Almighty, "in the day when I make up my
treasured possession. [a] I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son
who serves him. 18 And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and
the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.

HONOR THE SABBATH
Nehemiah 8:9: 9 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the
Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, "This day is sacred to the
LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep." For all the people had been weeping as they
listened to the words of the Law.
Exodus 20:8‐11: 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall
labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.
On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your
manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in
six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them,
but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and
made it holy.

CELEBRATE GOD & JESUS
Nehemiah 8:10: 10 Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and
send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do not
grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."
Luke 2:10: 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of
great joy that will be for all the people.

Psalm 101:1‐3: 1 I will sing of your love and justice;
to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

SURRENDER & GIVE YOURSELF AND YOUR LIFE TO GOD
Matthew 16:24‐25: 24Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to
save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.
Rom. 12:1‐2: 1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of
worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's
will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Our Father knows what's best for us
So why should we complain?
