What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:
How does a well written newsletter shape peoples opinion on their team in sports
Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect
to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?
I chose this topic to investigate because sports is a huge thing in peoples lives. With
Vancouver hosting one of the thirty two teams in the NHL it is very easy to bond and connect
with others by just talking about the Vancouver Canucks. The reason I am using this inquiry
question is because even though sports brings us together, Sports has a very big side of
being bias towards their teams and their feelings for the team
The background and knowledge I have in this area is 6 years of playing hockey, 13 years of
watching hockey and 5 years of following the analytical side of hockey
Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?
I am quite unsure of what I want to do for my career at this point however, if I have any
opportunities for an area in sports I would gladly take almost any opportunity I get for it

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.
Creative thinking: Thinking of an idea how to make a newsletter different from the others is a
key thing to do or else it won’t get any recognition I would have to think of ways how to grab
people's attention. The subject areas I am using are English and New Media. English by
using different writing styles to express my emotion and thoughts on the Jets and New Media
by connecting it back to English and how to make a well written page using technology.
Communication: I will develop ideas on how to effectively create an article that will attract and
make the reader want to read. I will obtain information by watching hockey games, take notes,
and put the information I have learned in the article.
Critical Thinking: I will analyze the Winnipeg Jets hockey games, find and remember key info
about the games to write about. I will make questions as I am watching such as “how did that
goal go in?”, “Where is Connor McDavid” “Without Elhers how will the Jets play?””
Positive Personal & Cultural Identity: I will say how the Winnipeg Jets are one of my personal
values and that I have been a fan for a while.
Personal Awareness & responsibility: Self determination by wanting to create a good article
and say how the Jets were determined to win
Social Responsibility: Contributed to the community by creating incite of another hockey team
besides the Vancouver Canucks, I aimed to create a non-biased webpage that will inform
other people of teams they might not know much of since they are almost half the country 3
provinces away.
Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to
present your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once
completed. You may use a combination of mediums.
o Electronic portfolio: Prezi or PPT
o Physical portfolio
o Website
o iMovie presentation
o YouTube channel

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what
will you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be
produced \at the end of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining
your proposal.
For my Capstone I am using the branch Project Capstone and I will be creating my own hockey
newsletter for the NHL team the Winnipeg Jets. What I will be writing in the newsletters are current
events of the Jets like the first round of the playoffs, second round and beyond if they make it and if
they get eliminated from the Playoffs, I will write about the Winnipeg Jets future and the NHL draft
coming up in September
The main thing I want to cover in my project is the Winnipeg Jets journey and experience in the 2021
Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the 2021 NHL season being how it has never been in its hundred-year
history all the teams had to experience something they have never gone through, and I want to write
about that and what some of the struggles would have been to reach this point of the season. After I
talk about the journey to the playoffs, I would talk about The NHL playoffs being an all Canadian
Northen Division and what types of struggles and challenges and hurdles they must face to advance in
in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, an example of a hurdle they must get over is in the first round being
Connor McDavid. With the Winnipeg Jets lackluster defense, I would write about what the Jets are
going to have to do to put a stop to the amazing Connor Mcdavid and his unreal offensive capabilities.
The second thing I want to talk about is the Winnipeg Jets team down the line and into the future.
With hockey being such a diverse and advanced sport there is a whole other side to the sport beside
the game. One of the biggest things in NHL outside of the game is the NHL draft where players often at
the age of eighteen is drafted to one of the thirty-two teams according to their position in the NHL
regular season and their luck with the NHL lottery. With the Jets being a playoffs hockey team, their
draft position will be determined by their record in the regular season and in the round, they get
eliminated in. If they are eliminated in the first round, the highest pick they could get is the sixteenth
pick overall in the draft being based on their position in the regular season.
The last thing I would talk about in my newsletter is my thoughts and opinion on the players of the
team and would rank them overall and give my team a power ranking sorted by the best to the worst
players on the team. Sports is a highly competitive scene, and every athlete strives to be the best of
the best however, there is always times that there is a player better than you unless you are Wayne
Gretzky or Connor Mcdavid, and my idea is instead of all the players in the league, I rank the best
current players on the team and the prospects the Jets have and sort it through that.
One more thing I am going to do is I am going to create my own logo for my website and have some
sort of brand for my newsletter. If I want my newsletter to be read, I am going to have to make mine
different from others and make my website look pretty and I am going to have to make people want
to read and continue reading my newspapers. If my website does not have a logo and just looks bland
there it would be an awful look for me and an awful look for anyone that finds my website out of
nowhere and they will not want to read some bland looking website that looks like it was done in five
minutes

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and
skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail
your plans.
I will need a website where I can create my own website, I am planning to use Weebly as I
previously have experience with the website builder. The last thing I will need which I already
have is a laptop to watch games, make my website and write the posts
One of the things I am going to try to do is I am going to reach out to a local newspaper or
reach out to the Vancouver Giants and try to get their input of what makes a good sports blog
post
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?
The Winnipeg Jets getting eliminated early in the playoffs, since I am doing my project on the
Winnipeg Jets if the Jets get eliminated early there’s not that much I could talk about
compared to if the Jets were still in the playoffs
Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.
