Math Dali class?
-Yes ma’am
(teacher will play the Math Dali song)
(student will sing and dance)
Did you enjoy it?
I am glad to hear that, now let me -Yes ma’am
ask you one more thing about Math Dali,

trouble in math don’t mind to ask for help
and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Okay, thank you very much. Very good.

So, now do have any idea now, what is

our topic for today?
-Mathematics
Very good!

So, what kind of topic in math are we

going to talk about? -Subtraction

Okay very good.

What do we usually do we do in math?
-solving a problem
Okay very good.

b. Presentation
( Teacher will show 3 story books and ask
the pupils if they know what it is)
(the pupils will answer)

There is a young girl whose name is

Elsa, she is kind and an industrious child. She
is already in Grade 3 pupil in Basiad

rather than playing around.
One day, early in the morning, after
doing the house chores she starts reading
book that has 345 pages. After a week, she
finished reading the 123 pages.
How many pages of the book she
needs to read to finish the book?

(Teacher will show to the pupils The Big

Mango Tree with its fruit)
What kind of tree is this?
-Mango Tree
Very good!

I will call someone to pick the fruit and find

what number of question you should answer
from the story of Elsa.

So, are you ready?

Yes, Ma’am

= What kind of hobby that Elsa love?

-Elsa loves reading

=What is the conflict in the short

story?
-The conflict is the remaining pages of the
book.

= What king of process that you

need to apply to solve the problem? -Subtraction

=How many pages did Elsa read

after a week? -Elsa read 123 pages

=What is the total pages of the book?

-345 pages

Very good everyone!

As I was said earlier, in order for us to solve

the problem, we can use subtraction but
always remember that we need to arrange it in
their place value. Do you understand?
Yes, maam
Let us now arrange the number of pages that
Elsa read and the remaining pages that she
needs to read.
Let’s apply the regrouping, breaking it down
into it’s ones tens hundreds

Hundreds Tens Ones

300 40 5

Hundreds Tens Ones

100 20 3
H T O

3 4 5
1 2 3
2 2 2

And also we can solve this in this form.

345
- 123
222

So, how many pages that Elsa needs to read

to finish reading the book?

-222
And now, how are we going to check if our
answer is correct?

Very good!
-Addition ma’am
So, let us now proceed in checking, just
simply add the answer to the subtrahend.

222 Answer
+ 123 subtrahend
345 minuend

Group Activity
I will group you into 3 groups. Each
group will be given a puzzle board. You need
to complete the puzzle using subtraction. The
first group to finish wins.

activity. Let me ask you again, how are you
going to subtract 3 to 4 digits’ numbers with
regrouping?

-First you need to arrange it according to

its place value before you proceed in
solving process. You will start solving
from ones, tens, hundreds and thousands.
Very good! Let’s give him/her an angel clap.
