Digital Signal Processing Assignment 1

This document provides instructions for Digital Signal Processing Assignment 1. Students must individually complete and submit the assignment by March 24th, 2021 by uploading a scanned or photographed handwritten solution in MS Word or PDF format with their name and registration number in the filename. The assignment involves sampling a given analog signal at 30 Hz to obtain a discrete-time signal, sketching the magnitude spectrum of the sampled signal, and determining if the original analog signal can be reconstructed from the discrete-time signal.

Digital Signal Processing

Assignment 1
Deadline: Wednesday, March 24, 2021, 11:55 PM
Assessment: CLO-01

* Each student must individually attempt this assignment.

* Solved assignments must be submitted online via Assignments on SLATE latest by
Wednesday, March 24, 2021. No submissions will be accepted afterwards.
* Only hand-written solutions on A4 size paper will be accepted. Scan or take
snapshots of the hand-written solution and create a single MS Word document or
PDF file for submission. You may compress/zip the document if needed.
* The filename for the submitted document must include your name and registration
number.
* Copying someone else’s solution or providing your solution to someone else will
simply lead to zero marks for both.

Assessment: CLO-01 – Understand the sampling theorem and perform sampling on

continuous-time signals.

1. Consider the analog signal x(t ) = 2cos(84 t ) − sin(102 t ) − 3cos(168 t −  / 3) . Determine

the discrete-time signal x[n] obtained by sampling x(t ) at a rate of FT = 30 Hz.

2. Roughly sketch the magnitude spectrum X ( e j ) of the sampled signal x[n] determined in
Q1, showing all frequency components in the range −3    3 .

3. Can the analog signal x(t ) be successfully reconstructed/recovered from the discrete-time
signal x[n] ? Explain with reason.
