3905 CROSSWORD PUZZLE AWARD APPLICATION


(MIXED BAND/MODE)
(ENDORSEABLE)

The 3905 Crossword Puzzle Award is earned for submitting QSL cards for QSOs with call signs
containing consecutive characters that overlay the characters in the matrices below.

DEFINITIONS:
BASIC CALL SIGN – The call sign minus any modifiers – only the prefix, call area and suffix.
CALL AREA – The Call Area (or call area designator) is the number in the call sign just before
the suffix. Examples: W1AW, 6W8DY, T32RD
CHARACTER – Any of the letters A thru Z or numbers 0 thru 9.
PREFIX – The prefix is the character(s) preceding the numeric call area in the call sign. Some
awards apply a different definition, which is given in the documents describing those awards.
Examples: W1AW, 6W8DY
SUFFIX – The suffix is the letter(s) following the numeric call area in the call sign. Some
awards may apply a different definition, which is given in the documents describing those
awards. Examples: W1AW, 6W8DY

REQUIREMENTS:
1. All applicants for this award must hold a 100-Point Certificate on one of the nets operated by
The 3905 Century Club, Inc.
2. All contacts must be made on The 3905 Century Club, Inc. awards nets and contacts from any
or all of our nets may be used.
3. DO NOT enter any basic call sign more than once on this application.
4. The objective of this award is to use consecutive characters in a basic call sign with which you
have made contact to overlay characters in the various level tables below until all characters
have been overlaid.
5. You may use any or all characters in the prefix, call area, or suffix as long as they are
consecutive and as long as at least two (2) characters are used from each call sign.
6. Characters may be overlaid horizontally (left to right only), vertically (top to bottom only) or
diagonally (upper left to lower right only). You may overlay a given character more than once.
7. You may not use the same basic call sign more than once on this application.
8. All QSL cards applied toward this award may have been used on prior awards other than the
3905 Crossword Puzzle Award, and may be used on other Club awards that do not
specifically restrict their use.
9. This award may be earned multiple times with the provision that the same call sign may not be
reused for subsequent 3905 Crossword Puzzle Awards. This will be in the honor system.
10. There are three (3) Levels to this award. Level 1 must be earned initially with endorsements
for Levels 2 and 3.

agreement with your Area Awards Manager, please contact the Awards Committee whose
decision on interpretation will be final. The Awards Committee will contact all involved before
rendering a decision.

1. After first assuring that each card used toward this award conforms to all of the requirements
above, refer to the standard instructions contained in the application for the 100-Point Award,
the SWL Award, or on our web site (Awards Program, General Information), or included with
this application if it was obtained by postal mail, for submitting applications and paying
awards/endorsement fees.
