Capstone strand I have chosen is Project Strand
Proposed title for my project: Server Computer
What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:
Can you build and run a multi-use server off of a laptop, and create a more secure and private
experience?
Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect
to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?
Building a server is a great way for me to learn more about IT and networks, and is a useful
item for a resume in this field, which is the career path I intend on taking.
Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this
area of inquiry?
I have built computers and formatted network adjacent areas of computers, taken IT classes
to gain more knowledge in the area, and have considered building a server for a while.
Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?
My intended career path is in Cybersecurity or computer networking. The inquiry question
directly relates to my life as I take my internet privacy and security seriously and do not enjoy
companies abusing the privacy’s of users.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core
competencies will be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.
Personal Awareness and Responsibility: This project requires great time management and
coordination of schedules that can change based on other commitments.
Social Responsibility: Research requires considering multiple perspectives as well as being
open to new ideas. This project is reliant on this, as I need to be open to new ways of learning
and doing.
Critical Thinking: This project requires considering perspectives and considering the best way
to research and learn a new way of conducting research, implementing software, and
gathering new information.
Creative Thinking: as this project will most likely have complications and require some on the
fly work arounds, as well as perseverance as programming and computer troubleshooting/set
up can be finnicky.
Communication: While this capstone project was one which did not rely on communication
with others, it has shown me how valuable that communication would be. Small issues can
become larger issues if left unattended, and fixing problems could take hours due to a small
setting that needs to be changed.
Personal and Cultural Identity: Overall, this capstone has reinforced my interest and sparked
new ideas, such as how technologies such as the ones I employed could be used dfor the
betterment of others.
Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to
present your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once
completed. You may use a combination of mediums.

o Physical portfolio

you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this

I have decided to learn by myself, researching what I must, and learning from my mistakes
rather than pulling from someone else’s knowledge.
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?
Being able to learn and complete a server with multiple functions in a timely manner along
with any other requirements of the project could prove challenging.
Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.
None that I can think of, these cover all the topics and information I can think to include.
