REPORT FORMAT
Title page: Each report should have a title page (see the file INDR491_TitlePageFormat.doc
on the web page of the course). The name of the team members should be given in alphabetic
order.
Language: The reports should be written in English. The grammar and the formal writing rules
should be observed.
Size and style of the fonts: Normal, 12 pt. Only the words, which have a special meaning or
are not familiar to the reader, can be written in italic. Furthermore, headings and subheadings
of the report should be given in bold.
Format of the text: Reports should be prepared as one column. The paragraphs should be
justified. Each paragraph must be indented (e.g. 1cm) and no space should be left between
paragraphs.
Headings: All headings should be written in bold. The first letter of each word at the headings
should be capitalized, except the articles like “the”, “of”, etc. and the words like “and”, “or”,
etc. All headings should be numbered. The subheadings should follow the number of its
heading.
Tables and figures: All tables and the figures should be given with a short but informative
caption. The caption of a table should be at the top of the table, whereas the caption of a figure
should be under the figure. All tables and figures should be referred to at the appropriate place
in the text. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively according to their use in the
report. If a table or a figure is directly needed as part of your explanation, then it should be in
the body of the report. Otherwise, it should be given in the Appendix.
References: References should be given at the end of the report under the Bibliography
section. All the references given in the bibliography should be cited within the text of the
report. A reference should be cited in the text by stating the surname of the author(s) followed
by the year of publication in the parenthesis. If the reference has three or more authors, you
have to use just the surname of the first author followed by “et. al.” and then the publication
year of the reference in the parenthesis. Please note that you should not use this format while
you are listing the references in the bibliography. In the bibliography, all the authors should be
given (first the surname, then the initials of the names). All references should be listed
alphabetically according to the surnames of the authors in the bibliography (if an author has
more than one reference, these should be listed chronologically). Some examples are given
below for the references:

applications to pension reform" in Semi-Markov Models: Theory and Applications (J. Janssen,
