- The social, cultural, and economic conditions of the colonial


Philippines were published in La Solidaridad. Speeches of the Spanish
liberals about the Philippine were also featured in the newspaper.
34-36. Who authored it (if applicable)? What is the background of the author/s?

- Marcelo Hilario del Pilar y Gatmaitán, commonly known as Marcelo


H. del Pilar and also known by his pen name Plaridel. He was a
Filipino writer, lawyer, journalist, and freemason. Del Pilar, along
with José Rizal and Graciano López Jaena, became known as the
leaders of the reform movement in Spain (Wikipedia). Comité de
Propaganda’s contribution to the newspaper stopped and del Pilar
funded the newspaper almost on his own. On November 15, 1895, La
Solidaridad ceased publication, with 7 volumes and 160 issues.
Several writers contributed to La Solidaridad over its six years of
existence, like Antonio Luna, Anastacio Carpio, Mariano Ponce,
Antonio Mariá Regidor, José Mariá Panganiban, Isabelo de los Reyes,
Eduardo de Lete, José Alejandrino, and Pedro Paterno (Wikipedia).

- This plays a big role in our history. In which this primary source used
by different historians had already made a big impact towards
understanding the Philippine history. It enables us to recognize the
important events, appreciate, and understand the details in our history.

41-45. Analyze the picture below and explain it briefly.

- For me the pictures shows what underlies beyond history. Like, it has
more meanings and stories that is untold. In which we don’t really
know about it, since we have no proper evidences nor records to
evaluate and argue. So, just like the phrase “The rest is history” since
we can’t explain what has already happened.

46-50. How important is internal and external criticism in analyzing historical


resources?

- These two types of criticism is important since, it helps historians to


evaluate historical sources to avoid deception and come up with the
historical truth. It has a role in identifying and verifying the
authenticity of evidence.
51-55. Why do we need to have a proper reading of primary sources, like
Kartilya ng Katipunan, Proclamation of Philippine Independence, and others?
What’s the impact/ importance of analyzing it?

- By reading and understanding what is inside a source like, primary


source it will make us to analyze and have the correct information.
Since it provides first-hand evidences that will helps us to understand
the content of a particular document like, Kartilya ng Katipunan.
