Optical Communication Syllabus

This document outlines the objectives and content of an optical communication course. The course aims to study optical fiber modes and transmission characteristics, optical sources and detectors, and optical fiber measurements and coupling techniques. It also aims to provide knowledge of optical communication systems and networks. The course is divided into 5 units that cover: introduction to optical fibers; transmission characteristics of optical fibers; optical sources and detectors; optical receivers, measurements and coupling; and optical communication systems and networks. The course outcomes are to understand optical fiber elements, modes and configurations, analyze transmission characteristics, design optical sources and detectors for communication systems, and construct receiver systems and optical networks.
