This document describes a semester project that involves setting up a networking structure for a distribution company called SWAN PK with offices in four cities in Pakistan. It uses Cisco Packet Tracer to simulate the network topology, which includes routers, switches, servers, and PCs across the different office locations connected through VLANs. The project implements technologies like DHCP, VLANs, SSH, and EIGRP to configure the routers and switches to allow communication between different departments while restricting access as needed.

Project<Deal a Meal>

Chapter 1
Introduction

1.1 Introduction
This project is on the networking structure of The SWAN PK is a distribution company with four
offices in different cities of Pakistan. They have head office in Lahore and other three offices are
in Khan, Islamabad and Peshawar. Following topology is self-explanatory of network design of
the company. In every office other than head office
There are two VLANs for ADMINISTRATION and MANAGEMENT departments. Number of
personal computers in each network are mentioned in the diagram below. ADMINISTRATION
departments of ISB, KHI and PWR cannot directly communicate with Lahore office, they can
only update about their work to MANAGEMENT people and then management will forward the
progress to head office. SWAN PK has 172.16.0.0/20 network address for their topology.
Project<Deal a Meal>

Chapter 2 Tools and Technologies

2.1 Tool
The tool we used in this project is cisco packet tracer.
Project<Deal a Meal>

2.1.1 Cisco Packet Tracer

Packet Tracer offers an effective, interactive environment for learning networking concepts and
protocols. Most importantly, Packet Tracer helps students and instructors create their own virtual
“network worlds” for exploration, experimentation, and explanation of networking concepts and
technologies.

2.2 Devices
2.2.1 Server
A server is a computer or system that provides resources, data, services, or programs to other
computers, known as clients, over a network. In theory, whenever computers share resources with
client machines they are considered servers.

2.2.2 Router
A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers
perform the traffic directing functions on the Internet. ... When a data packet comes in on one of the
lines, the router reads the network address information in the packet header to determine the ultimate
destination.

2.2.3 Switch
Switches are key building blocks for any network. They connect multiple devices, such as computers,
wireless access points, printers, and servers; on the same network within a building or campus. A
switch enables connected devices to share information and talk to each other.

2.2.4 Pcs
Personal computers allow us to write papers, create spreadsheets, track our finances, play games, and
do many other things. If a PC is connected to the Internet, it can be used to browse the Web, check e-
mail, communicate with friends via instant messaging programs, and download files.

2.3 Technologies
2.3.1 DHCP
A DHCP relay agent is any host that forwards DHCP packets between clients and servers. Relay agents
are used to forward requests and replies between clients and servers when they are not on the same
physical subnet.

2.3.2 VLANs
A virtual local area network (VLAN) is a logical group of workstations, servers and network devices that
appear to be on the same LAN despite their geographical distribution. A VLAN allows a network of
computers and users to communicate in a simulated environment as if they exist in a single LAN and
are sharing a single broadcast and multicast domain.
2.3.3 SSH
SSH or Secure Shell is a network communication protocol that enables two computers to communicate
(c.f http or hypertext transfer protocol, which is the protocol used to transfer hypertext such as web
pages) and share data.
Project<Deal a Meal>

2.3.4 EIGRP
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is a dynamic routing network layer Protocol which
works on the protocol number 88. EIGRP supports classless routing, VLSM, route summarization, load
balancing and many other useful features.
