Capstone Proposal Good
Capstone Proposal Good
Ms. Lacroix.
Project Strand. Story of Death.
My inquiry question is. How do 2D video games affect developers and consumers? I
chose this question because I am and know consumers of 2D video games and have seen that
from the perspective of a consumer but I want to see that perspective of a developer, because
you can google how hard is it to make a 2D game but most developers don’t go into the
psychological aspects of the developing process as well as how they feel their game affects
consumer. In I.T. grades 9 and 10 I learned a little bit of how to use Unity which is a popular
game developing software and I have watched a lot of game dev interviews. For those grades I
was able to make a sort of practice project for games. My intended career area is either game
development or game design, both which can be covered in my capstone. This inquiry is directly
connected because it would help me get into the gaming industry if the game ends up being
good quality as well as being a project for a portfolio for a game design or development job.
Communication:
I need to make sure the ideas and themes are communicated in a understandable fasion
and that people can interpret them.
Creative Thinking:
Critical Thinking:
I need to make a plan for my responsibilities in the making of this game and seek help if
my goals are confusing or questionable.
Social Responsibility:
I’ve identified and used different perspectives to help shape my game in the code and
sprites I am using.
My project will be a 2D video game demo I will be using Unity and other software’s to
code/program the game, make sprites and backgrounds for the game, and make sound effects
for the game. I will also make a sort of trailer for the game and make sure there is a playable
demo for the presentations and exit interviews. All of this outside of the trailer recording and
editing can be done at school and at home. The trailer will most likely have to be all at home
because of the applications and stuff involved. The first step will be to plan out each day and
week in terms of work and to see how many hours I will be doing the work each day. The next is
to make sure I will be able to use every application on my computers. The third step is to open
unity and get a basic project started with all the necessary programs and add-ons. I will then get
to work on gather sprites and background art for the character, level, and like I stated earlier,
backgrounds. The step after that will be to start coding which will be put into around 3-4 parts
of code. 1, is the level code. This will be the code that makes sure all the platforms and
landscapes are solid and all the backgrounds are not. 2, is the character code. This will focus on
the movement of the character and will include the animations of the character in the game as
well as interactions with the other objects. 3, is the enemy code this will involve all the enemy
animations, movement and interactions. The forth will be all the extra stuff, from sound effects,
to music, to gems or coins and everything like that. Once I am finished that I will make sure it
can be exported for both a windows and mac experience. Once that happens I will do some
final playtests and then film the trailer for the game. I will spend a day or two filming and then
the rest of the time editing the trailer. The game will be about a child that is trying to find their
way through a clearing in a forest area and will have to jump around bugs and other creatures
to get there, while collecting orbs that will be explained later in the game if it wasn’t a demo.
The resources/technology I will need and use is my PC at my home, my laptop for working at
school, Unity software on both, and a sprite/image editing software on both. For skills I will
need to do programming and 2D image/sprite design. The way I will work on it at home and at
school is to have the software on both and to use a usb drive to transfer any extra files. If I need
any help or advice from a mentor I can reach out to someone in gaming industries in the area
that I’ve either reached out to or that my family knows. The biggest limitations I will face are
time and internet/technology issues. I overall don’t know exactly how long it would take me to
finish the game so I have to see if I will be able to make a full game in the time amount or just a
demo of the game. I will need bring headphones into class if I need to do sound design or listen
to the game.
