Computer Laboratory Manual


General Guidelines
1. Proper conduct must be observed inside the computer laboratories at all times.

2. Loud or obscene language is not allowed.

3. All users are responsible for their belongings while inside the computer laboratory. (ITD do not encourage leaving of
personal belongings on the shelves as we do not monitor them).

4. Student IDs must be presented / validated upon entering the laboratory.

5. Users must logoff their account after use [everyone is accountable for their username and password].

6. Bringing of computer laboratory equipment into or out of the laboratory is not allowed unless approved by the IT
Department.

7. No free slot users shall be accommodated during scheduled class hours, seminars, or trainings, unless authorized by the class
faculty for that laboratory schedule.

8. Free slot users are only allowed to use a workstation for a duration of 1 ½ hours to give way to other users especially during
enrollment. However, this does not apply in non-peak hours.

9. Only authorized IT Department personnel are allowed to alter the settings/configuration of the computer and facilities.

10. Misuse of Laboratory facilities that results (or could result) in damage to the College software, equipment, data, or facilities
will be subject for disciplinary or possible legal action.

11. Eating and/or bringing in food and/or any liquid inside the computer laboratory is strictly prohibited.

12. Loitering inside the computer laboratory is not allowed.

13. Playing games, unless authorized is strictly prohibited.

14. Vandalism is not tolerated.

15. Accessing of pornographic, violent, and other inappropriate contents are strictly prohibited.

16. Cellphones and other communication devices must be switched off or put in silent mode while inside the computer
laboratory.

17. Computer laboratory faculty PC is strictly for faculty use only, unless student is authorized by the faculty on schedule or IT
Department.

18. Only one (1) computer is allowed for each student’s use unless authorized by the faculty and/or IT Department.

19. The IT Department performs regular maintenance. Users must save their files in their personal storage devices [such as flash
drives].
20. The computer laboratory printer is intended only for class and official academic use. Non-class related printing will be
charged on a per-page basis.

Computer Instruction (for Teacher)


 Teacher should review computer instructions prior to class for efficient use of the computers.
 Teachers must instruct students in Internet Safety.
 Teachers should review with their students the District’s Acceptable Use Policy.
 Teachers should verify URL’s are accessible and appropriate prior instructional activities.
 Teacher must remain in the lab at all times and is responsible for discipline.
 Teacher must submit an Online Trouble Tickets for any computer with missing or damaged hardware or peripherals.
 Teachers are expected to closely monitor student activity by frequent screen checks. If using the Internet–use URL’s
that you have visited and have found to be appropriate for the assignment and students age.
 Teachers should report any non-functioning technology equipment to ITD via the online Technology Support site or
school’s Computer Staff.
 Students should only send the print command to the printer once. If information is not printing, there is a reason.
 Students must close all open windows, applications, and log out before leaving the lab.
 Teachers, should when using computer labs clean the whiteboard, turn off the digital projector if available, and return
the room key after doors have been locked. Doors to computer labs must be locked when not in use.
 Computer users should not unplug and switch mouse for left handed students. Simply have student move the mouse to
the left side of the keyboard and replace on right side when done.

Computer Rules
• Log-on with your username and password for your use only. Never share your username and password.
• Chewing gum, food, or drinks are not allowed in the computer lab or anywhere near a computer.
• Respect the equipment. Do not remove or disconnect parts, cables, or labels.
• Internet use is limited to teacher assigned activities or classwork.
• Personal Internet use for chat rooms, instant messaging (IM), or email is strictly prohibited. (This is against our
Acceptable Use Policy.)
• Do not download or install any programs, games, or music. (This is against out Acceptable Use Policy.)
• No Internet/Intranet gaming activities allowed.
• Do not personalize the computer settings. (This includes desktop, screen saver, etc.)
• Ask permission to print.
• If by mistake you get to an inappropriate Internet site, turn off your monitor immediately and raise your hand.
• CD-ROMs, or other multimedia equipment are for school work only. Do not use them for playing music or other
recreational activities.
• Do not run programs that continue to execute after you log off.
• Log-off — leave the computer ready for the next person to use. Pick-up your materials and push in the chair

Computer Laboratory Reservation Policies

 The class size should exceed 25% of lab capacity to reserve a computer laboratory.
 ITD will not approve reservation requests if the computer laboratory will be used for presentation purposes
only.
Note: IT Department has allocated computers inside classrooms for presentations.
 Reservation should be made:
One (1) day before the date of use, when there are no configuration changes needed; and;
One (1) week before date of use, when there are configuration changes requested (like installation of software,
etc.)
 Student organization-sponsored hands-on seminars must submit a letter endorsed by Organization Adviser to
ITD.
Note: Request must be submitted to the External Operations Office Head at least a week before date of use.
The
letter should state the purpose, date and time, the software involved, the number of participants and the
instructor's name. No unlicensed software will be installed.
 Reservations are subject to the approval of the External Operations Office Head.
Note: Users will be notified if reservation is approved or denied. Among the points to be considered when
reservation is made include the availability of the lab based on its schedule, the availability of software, the
reservation record, the reasons for reservation and the time-allowance before date of use.
 All Computer Laboratory reservations are subject to validation and approval. Customers should be informed
immediately in case of changes.
 Faculty members are not allowed to reserve any computer laboratory for more than a month unless authorized.
 Computer laboratories are designated for courses with computer laboratory schedule and fees only.
 The ITD shall notify the faculty members with affected reservation schedule In the event of schedule
adjustments.
 ITD shall not make any schedule adjustment unless a confirmation from the faculty is received.
 Reservation is on a first-come first-serve basis.
 Computer Laboratory reservation cancellation should be made at least 1 day before the actual schedule.
 A computer laboratory whose faculty did not show up in 20 minutes from the time of his/her schedule shall be
opened for reservation or free slot.
