13 Checklist)
14 Checklist (settings have to be made or checked)
15  Same software version on all workstations (incl. patch)
16  Speed of LAN adapter for NavNet is set to 1Gbps Full Duplex
17  Second LAN adapter is OFF when not needed
18  HOSTS file contains all MFC entries
19  Sensor integrations should be distributed over several MFC (not only two!)
20  No unnecessary devices should be configured (devices that are not used)
21  No unnecessary device Integrations should be configured (integrations without any configured
22 device)
23  ECDIS processor affinity masks are set to 3 when BoxPC.
24  Special Displays like Captains Display, Crew Mess Display, Wing Display, etc. are configured as
25 “MFD”)
26  Netgear switch settings (RSPT for ring ports enabled)are made
27  Integrations should communicate unicast instead of broadcast (when possible), e.g. CAN/LAN

29 2 Detailed Description
30 2.1.1 Link Speed of LAN adapter
31 All LAN Adapter of the NavNet (Local Area Connection) MUST be set to 1Gbps Full Duplex
32 1. Open the properties of the “Local Area Connection” adapter and press the “Configure” button
33 next to the network controller.
34 2. Select the “Advanced” tab and the property “Speed & Duplex”. Set it to “1.0 Gbps Full Duplex”:

35

36 2.1.2 Usage of the Second LAN Adapter

37 Do not enable the second LAN port if the port is not used. The performance of the system may be
38 influenced.
39 If the second LAN port is connected to a network and shall be activated on request of the project
40 department, enable the adapter similar to the Loopback adapter.
41 Check the requirements regarding the NetBIOS protocol of any third-party software which runs on the
42 PCs or is connected to a PC in the network.

43 2.1.3 LMHOSTS configuration

44 1. Disable “LMHOSTS lookup” and NetBIOS for all network adapters:
45 a. Select the “Local Area Connection” adapter (LAN1) and open the property page.
46 b. Uncheck the “NWLink NetBIOS” item.
47 c. Uncheck the “NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol” item.

48

49 d. Double-click on the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and select the WINS tab.
50 e. Ensure, that “Enable LMHOSTS lookup” is unchecked and “Disable NetBIOS over
51 TCP/IP” is selected.

52
53 f. Repeat these steps for the Loopback adapter.
54 g. If NetBIOS is not required by a third-party software using the second LAN adapter,
55 repeat steps a to e for the second LAN adapter.
56
57 2. Open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts with a text editor. This file contains the
58 IP addresses for all computer names which cannot be resolved by DNS or NetBIOS. Because
59 NetBIOS was deactivated in the last step, we have to enter a IP address for every PC in the
60 system. For each PC, add a line containing a IP address of the PC and the name of the PC,
61 separated by a tab or spaces, e.g.:
62
63 192.168.10.11 MFC1
64
65 For example, the file shall contain the following lines for a system containing 4 MFCs:
66
67 192.168.10.11 MFC1
68 192.168.10.21 MFC2
69 192.168.10.31 MFC3
70 192.168.10.41 MFC4
71 Copy the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to all PCs in the system.

74
75
76 Required content of the hosts file for a system with 4 MFCs
77 After performing these steps on all PCs, test the connectivity of the PCs in the system:
78 Open a command shell (Start  Run  cmd) and ping the other PCs in the system using the
79 computer name, e.g.:
80
81 “ping MFC2”
82
83 The IP address for the PC shall be correctly resolved and the remote PC shall reply to the ping
84 request (assuming the remote PC is running).
85 Repeat this step on each PC in the system.
86 Check access to the shared folders of the remote PCs: Open a explorer and enter
87 a shared folder in the address bar, e.g. \\mfc2\d$. The content of the folder shall be shown
88 (assuming the remote PC is running).

89 2.2 Avoid broadcast integration for CAN/LAN Gateway

90 Broadcast integrations shall never use the same receive and transmit port. Devices like CAN/LAN Gateway
91 should always be integrated “unicast”:

92

IP Unit Port

192.168.10.130 CAN/LAN Gateway AS 1 LAN 1

192.168.10.131 CAN/LAN Gateway AS 1 LAN 2

6001
192.168.10.132 CAN/LAN Gateway AS 2 LAN 1

192.168.10.133 CAN/LAN Gateway AS 2 LAN 2

192.168.10.[n]4 MFC [n] 6001

94 2.3 Configure a MFD (Multifunctional Display) for special use cases

95
96 If the bridge configuration contains special consoles like Captain Display, Crew Mess Display and Wing
97 Displays or similar, you have to adjust the configuration of these consoles. To adjust the configuration open
98 Service Tool and add a console as “MFD”.

99
100 Select the newly added console on the left and expand it. Select the node BIP and expand the node
101 Services.
102 The following services (Tasks) should be visible after expansion.
103 - SyncDataPersist (Task)
104 - DisplayService (Task)
105 - TimeSync (Task)

108 2.4 Configuration of the Netgear GS108Tv2

109 Hub-Configuration:
110 The Netgear GS108Tv2 are delivered with a default configuration. The switch is configured as a standard
111 unmanaged Hub. For normal applications is no additional configuration necessary.
112
113 RSTP Switch-Configuration:
114 For using the switch with a redundant network are the following configurations necessary.
115
116 With the Netgear switch comes an installation CD. Please install Launch Smart Control Center Manager from
117 the CD.
118
119 Start Launch Smart Control Center Manager and search with „Discover“ fo connected switches.
120

121
122
123
124 Select switch by switch by the „Web Browser Access“, the standard password is „password“
125
126 Based at the standard configuration you have to do the following settings at the RSTP:
127
128 1. Define System Location

Engineering

129 at „System“
130 „Management“
131 „System Information“
132 Define System Location, it is helpfull to allocate the switch to the consoles.
133 f.ex. Switch at MFC1  „Switch MFC1“

134
135
136 2. IP-configuration
137 „System“
138 „Management“
139 „IP Configuration“
140 Select „Static IP Adress“,
141 for switches at the IBS is generelly the adressrange 192.168.10.200 to
142 192.168.10.229 reserved.
143 Here it makes also sense to allocate the switch to the console.
144 „Switch MFC1“  192.168.10.201
145 „Switch MFC2“  192.168.10.202
146 Subnet Mask is always 255.255.255.0
147 Default Gateway is 192.168.10.254
148

149
150 3. RSTP Konfiguration
151 at „Switching“
152 „STP“

153 „Advanced“
154 „STP Configuration“
155 Select „Spanning Tree State“
156 Select „STP Operation Mode“ RSTP
157
158

159
160
161 4. Configuration of the RSTP Ports
162 „Switching“
163 „STP“
164 „Advanced“
165 „CST Configuration“
166 with Ports/ STP Status set all redundant network ports to “Enable”
