LEARNING GUIDE 26 in SCIENCE 5
I. LESSON TITLE
Types of Weather Disturbances
II. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: In this lesson, you are expected to:
a. Identify the different weather disturbances
b. State some precautionary measures before, during, and after thunderstorm
III. LEARNING MATERIALS: Science for Active Learning 6 textbook, Cyber Science 6 textbook, learning guide,
ZOOM app, laptop/computer/smartphone, PPT Presentation
IV. TEACHING-LEARNING ACTIVITIES (SYSCHRONOUS and CONVENTIONAL APPROACH)
Day 1 (ONLINE)

9.
Land without plants on the surface erodes faster than those with vegetation. Soil erosion is
affected by the presence of ____________________.
3. TORMSUNDERTH ___________________
Hint: It is a localized storm cloud that produces thunder and lightning.
4. MORTS ___________________
Hint: It is a violent disturbance of the atmosphere characterized by sudden changes in air pressure and rapid air
movements.
3. Introduction
Before we start our lesson, let us do the activity in your Cyber Science Textbook under Start Up on page 340.
4. Presentation
Weather disturbances usually start when there is an interaction of cold air masses and warm air masses on Earth,
to learn more about our topic on Types of Weather Disturbances, let us have our discussion via ZOOM. (Search
In on page 343-345)
Key Understanding:
A storm is a violent disturbance in the atmosphere marked by sudden changes in air pressure and rapid air
movement.
A thunderstorm is a localized storm cloud that produces thunder and lightning. It is one of the most
common type of weather disturbances that is experienced in the country.
A tropical storm with sustained winds of at least 120 km/hr is hurricane.
A tornado is a whirling, funnel-shaped windstorm which often develops from a thunderstorm.
Tropical cyclone is classified into three types according to maximum sustained winds.
5. Pupils’ self-evaluation/independent practice activities:
To my Home-base Teacher Partner: Thank you for guiding the child in going through the lesson and in doing the
activities. Thank you too for allowing the child to check his/her understanding of the lesson by answering independently
(as much as possible) the activities below. For the Activities 1, 2, and Assessment please take a picture of the
Day 2 (Conventional)
Activity 1
Do the activity in your science textbook under Menu on page 341.
Activity 2
Complete the concept map below.
1.
2. _________________ involves high winds and rising moist air which cause precipitation.
3.
4.
5. A ______________ forms when masses of warm, moist air move rapidly upward.
6.
7. A ______________ is a whirling funnel-shaped windstorm.
8.
9. Types of
Weather ______________ are classified into five according to the speed of wind namely, tropical
disturbance depression, tropical storm, and typhoon.
6. Assessment
Circle the letter of the correct answer.
