What are Introverts and extroverts?

An introvert is a person who prefers to spend time alone, over socializing and
connecting with people. They spend time learning new skills, reading books,
watching movies, self-talk, overthinking, and more. They love to stay quiet and
speak only when it is required.
The word introvert originated from the Latin word introvertere, introvertere is
composed of two Latin words into and vertere that means to turn one’s
thoughts inwards. And the person who has traits opposite to an introverted
person is referred to as an extrovert. Some people have characteristics of
both the introvert and extrovert personality, they are known as ambivert.
Most of the time people get confused in understanding the difference between
a shy person and an introverted person. Shy people get self-conscious and
nervous in social situations whereas introverted people feel their energy
drained from socializing. Introverts are not anti-social, but they do not like to
spend time around groups of people.
From the research, it has been found that introverts have higher blood flow in
their frontal lobe compared to extroverts. Also, the brains of both of them react
differently to the dopamine level.

Types of introverts
There are four types of introverts:
1. Social: Introverts who love to socialize in small groups rather than in
groups with numerous peoples.
2. Restrained: These types of introverts think, observe, and understand
things before taking any action.
3. Thinking: These types of introverts are busy with their own thoughts.
4. Anxious: Anxious introverts feel awkward or self-conscious when being
around people.

Experience of being an introvert in the 21st century

It is not too easy to live with an introverted personality in society. I have
encountered many difficulties living with my introverted personality. Being a
highly sensitive introvert boy, I have seen all the difficulties that an introvert
faces even in the present scenario. I have listed down some of the most
common difficult situations:
1. Relatives and friends always complain to introverted peoples for not
attending parties, gatherings, and talking less.
2. Even extroverted parents and siblings find it difficult to understand the
uncommon behavior of the introverted person.
3. They get easily anxious when they are around a lot of people.
4. Tagged or given different names such as a shy person, book-worm,
boring, and many more.
5. Find hard to socialize and connect with people.
6. Get ideas to talk with peoples they are not closely bonded to.
7. Bullying at schools and colleges.
8. More prone to anxiety and depression.
9. People perceive them as rude.
Society needs to understand that people have their own personality types and
behavior. So they should think before assuming or commenting anything
about anyone.
Benefits of introverts-

● Good Analytical Skills:

The introverted peoples are good at solving problems due to their
analytical and logical skills.

● Effective listeners:
They are good listeners. They listen more than speaking. This listening
habit helps them in grasping all the key points suggested by friends,
teachers, relatives, boss, etc.

● Keen observation:
Different perspective towards everything. So, introverted people can
point out many small details that are left unnoticed by other people. And
this good observation also helps them in judging people and situations
in details that other people can miss.

● Close friends over a bunch of friends:

Due to introverted personality, introverted people fail to make a lot of
friends like people with other types of personality, but they are good at
forming close bonds with the limited number of friends they already
have.

Disadvantages of introverts-

● Difficulty in connecting with the peoples.

● Feels lonely sometimes.
● Gets anxious when there are a lot of people.
● Society sees them from a completely different perspective.
● No one to celebrate their birthday and achievement.

Does society really need introverts?

Introvert people speak only when required and love to stay alone. And find
difficulty in network building. Despite these difficulties, they have some
unavoidable abilities that make them different from others and more
productive.
Some qualities of introverted peoples that are necessary for society:
➢ Overthinking:
The introvert peoples are also referred to as overthinkers sometimes
because they analyze things more than others. This quality helps them
in solving complex problems.

➢ Highly sensitive personality:

Connects with the people more deeply and can easily build an undetachable
bond.

➢ Perfection:
Tries to bring perfection in all types of work assigned to them.

➢ Doing more than speaking:

They prefer doing the work and completing tasks instead of simply
talking and wasting time.

Many successful peoples like Albert Einstein, a physicist known for his theory
of relativity and his work for modern physics who received the Nobel Prize,
Susan Cain an American writer and lecturer who has written books on
introverts, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, and many others, were introverted
persons.

Conclusion:
Introverted peoples enjoy leaving alone instead of being around peoples, they
feel uneasy or uncomfortable when left around lots of people. Whereas,
extroverts are completely opposite to introverted peoples. Both personality
traits have their own benefits and limitations. The neurons of both
personalities work differently, so no person can change personality with their
wish. There are many famous personalities who were introverts, and thus we
cannot say that an introvert cannot do anything as they do not like socializing.
Introverts have many personality traits that are found to be very useful for
society.
