Question: Evaluate the political systems of the world including

Nepal. Discuss their strengths and weakness and state your
arguments to support any one of them. Mention the things what
should be done to improve the political system of Nepal.
Answer:

In Political science, a political system defines the process for making official
government decisions. It is usually compared to the legal system, economic
system, cultural system and other social systems. However, this is a very simplified
view of a much more complex system of categories involving the questions of who
should have authority and what the government influence on its people and
economy should.

According to David Eastorn,"A political system can be designated as the

interactions through which values are authoritatively allocated for a society".

The seven most political systems around the world including Nepal are:

After all, many political systems are similar or have similar roots. Many countries
actually have republics of some kind variants of democracy. As we study political
science; it can be helpful to understood some of the most common types of
political systems from around the world.
1. Democracy

2. Republic

3. Monarchy

4. Communism

5. Dictatorship

6. Authoritarianism

7. Totalitarianism

1. Democracy: Democracy is a type of political system that requires a popular

vote (representative election) to take place to elect the leader of the country and
other officials. Simply put, the leaders are chosen by the people. For e.g. Nepal,
India etc.

Strengths and weakness of democracy are:

The strengths of Democracy system are:

1. It protects the interest of citizens.

2. It prevents monopoly and authority.
3. It promotes equality.
4. It makes for a responsible and stable administration.
5. It brings a feeling of obligation towards the citizen.
6. It imparts political education to the people.
7. It helps make good citizens.

The weaknesses of Democracy system are:

1. It might allow misuse of public funds and time.

2. Due to the game of politics there might be corruptions.
3. It risks for the wrong choice of public servants.
4. It allows not exercising the right to vote.
5. It may put more emphasis on quantity, rather than quality.
6. It can take long to make decisions.
7. It may involve immoral practices during elections.
2. Monarchy: A monarchy is a form of government where the individual or group
of people in power is determined through bloodlines. Specific rules are in place
that dictate who can be named the ruler are in place that dictate who can be named
the ruler of the state in a monarchy. For e.g. UK, Saudi Arabia etc.

The Strengths of monarchy system are:

1. It provides the Balance in the government.

2. It can be cheaper to run a monarchy.
3. The transfer of power tends to be smoother.
4. A monarchy typically maintains a stronger defense.
5. The concentration of power in the hands of a single individual means that
decisions can be reached quickly.
6. It is more efficient form of government.
7. It encourages respect for the ruler.
8. It is useful for civilized and undeveloped societies.
9. It does not share blame.

The weaknesses of monarchy system are:

1. It is difficult to change the direction of a country.

2. Monarchies are supported by local tax policies.
3. Class discrimination is more prominent.
4. Independent justice is not present unless it is specifically built into the
government.
5. It looks into family as a state model.
6. It does not allow democratic legitimacy.
7. It lacks democratic accountability and liability.
8. It invests much power and fame to a single individual.
9. It can degenerate into tyranny.
10.It can lead to inequality of wealth.

3. Authoritarianism and totalitarianism:

In authoritarianism governments, the people have no power or representation and it

is characterized by absolute or blind obedience to formal authority as against
individual freedom and related to the expectation of unquestioning obedience. The
elite leaders handle all economic, military and foreign relations. A prime example
of authoritarianism is dictatorship. For e.g. political system of South Korea

Totalitarism is the most extreme form of authoritarianism. It controls all aspects of

life including the communication between citizens, media censorship and threatens
by the means of terror.

Political system of Nepal

The political system of Nepal functions within the framework of a parliamentary

republic with a multiparty system. Executive power is exercised by the Prime
minister and his/her cabinet, while legislative power is vested in the parliament.

It has four political parties recognized in the federal parliament: Nepal

Communist(NCP), Nepal Congress(NC), Samajbadi P arty Nepal(SPN) and
Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) while all major parties officially espouse
democratic socialism. During most of the brief periods of democratic exercise in
the 1950's as well as the 1990's Nepali congress held a majority in parliament.
Following the entry of the Maoists into the political they were the largest party in
the first constituent assembly and Nepali congress was the largest in the second
with no party winning a majority.

About these above arguments about political system I support the political system
of Democracy and its strength:
Democracy is a form of government in which the citizens and vote for laws
directly or indirectly via representatives. Democracy gives equal rights and
opportunity to all people. It makes to make good citizens because only good
citizens make to established good rules and regulation in country. It makes for a
responsible and stable administration. It helps people to aware about what is
happening in the system of country. It promotes equality, change. It brings a
feeling of obligation towards the citizens.

Things that should be done to improve political systems of Nepal are as

follows:

1. People should start questioning hardly to respective authority.

2. Make transparency, accountability and responsibility in the governance
level.
3. Stop blaming each other and make healthy politics.
4. Make co-ordination between government and people.
5. People must act actively and government should be corruption free with
proper transparency and accountability.
6. People should vote only the worthy candidate.

Conclusion:

It is important to take note that political systems have their own downsides and
people have different views about them. But by weighing their strength and
weakness which in this case is democracy we can come up with well- informed
understanding if it is best for the people or not.
