Social Order

A social environment where individuals interact with each other based on social status and
roles which are governed by a set of norms and values termed a social order. This social order
has several elements, including social structures and social institutions. Social structure is
defined as a network of interconnectedness, which normatively directs social relations in
society. The social structure, which is an interwoven relationship, is characterized by the
presence of organization and stability. Concerning the social structure, it is known as status
and role.

In general, status is understood as the order of people based on wealth, influence, and
achievement. However, sociology defines status as a position in a group or society. Status is
distinguished on the ascribed status, achieved status, and masters status. The status provided
to us by our group or society. Meanwhile, achieved status is provided to us about individual
choice and competition. Meanwhile, master status is the key or essence of status which has
the main weight in one's social interactions and relationships with other people. Furthermore,
the concept of social roles refers to the notion of a culturally defined set of rights and duties.
The role is the expected behavior with the status they have. Thus, role performance is a
person's actual behavior to their status

 Forms of Social Governance

One form of social order in society. Society is defined as a social system that self-subsistent
exceeds the lives of normal individuals and recruits members biologically and socializes to
the next generation. Based on the opinion of the expert it is not easy to apply the concept of
society to the various units of life that exist.

Social Order Elements

Another element of the social order is institutional. Social institutions are defined as norms,
rules, and organizational patterns developed around basic needs or issues related to the
community experience. Based on their function social institutions are distinguished among
others into kinship institutions, educational institutions, economic institutions, scientific
institutions, and others.
 Family Institutions and Educational Institutions
About family institutions, families are formed through an event called marriage.
Marriage itself is defined as an alliance between two people or two large families.
Meanwhile, in general, a family is defined as a group consisting of men and women who
are bound by marriage and their unmarried children. Several perspectives try to reveal the
existence of this family in society, namely the interactionist perspective, functionalism
perspective, and conflict perspective. However, there are two forms of marriage rules,
namely exogamy, and endogamy. Also, there are rules about which categories or groups
that cannot be married are mentioned incest taboo.
Concerning educational institutions, educational institutions are defined as a learning
process that, among other things, is aimed at meeting the need for knowledge
transmission and preparing individuals for job roles. Meanwhile, education in various
forms of cultural or intellectual instruction system formalized. There are three basic types
of education, namely education in practical skills, status group education, and
bureaucratic education. In educational institutions, there are two functions that
sociologists distinguish into manifest and functional functions.

 Economic Institutions and Political Institutions

Economic activity arises from the efforts of the community to organize land, labor,
capital, and technology to produce, distribute, and consume goods and services.
Politics is a process that is institutionalized through decisions that affect the
community, region, state, or society as a whole which is made and carried out. There are
several concepts related to politics, namely the concept of power, authority, and
influence. In connection with this political order, there are several approaches, namely
functionalist and conflict approaches. Meanwhile, Max Weber has identified three
specific types of authority, namely traditional, legal-rational, and charismatic. Three
theories explain the distribution of power, namely the pluralistic model, the elite model,
and the class model. In connection with political change, there are several forms used to
bring about political change, namely terrorism, rebellion, evolution, and revolution.

2. To prevent irregularities in social values and norms in society.

3. To develop a culture of shame.

4. To create and enforce the legal system.

 Forms of Social Control

 Gossip

Gossip is often also termed with rumors. Gossip is discussing negative behavior by a person
without being supported by clear facts. Gossip cannot be publicly known, especially by the
person who is the object of gossip. Nevertheless, gossip can spread by word of mouth so that
almost all members of the public know and engage in gossip.

 Reprove

Reprimands are usually performed by a person or group of people against a person or group
of people deemed to be in violation of ethics and/or interfering with the comfort of the
community. The reprimand is a social critique that is done directly and openly so that the
concerned immediately realize the mistakes that have been made. In the tradition of our
society rebuke is not strange anymore. For example, a rebuke to a group of young men who
stay up late at night while making noises that disturb the peace of sleeping residents
reprimands made by teachers to students who often leave lessons, etc.

 Sanctions/Penalties
sanctions or penalties are negative rewards given to a person or group of people he
or she deems to have committed deviant behavior. For example, his dismissal of
police officers who were found to have consumed and circulated drugs, etc. The
benefits of sanctions or penalties include:
1. to make a person or a group aware of his deviations so that he will not repeat them

2. as a warning to other citizens not to commit irregularities.

 Education

Education is a conscious effort made by a person or group of people to influence a person or

group of people to reach the level of maturity. It is through education that one knows,
understands, and at the same time practices the system of values and norms that prevail in
society.

 Religion

Religion teaches all mankind to maintain good relations between humans and fellow humans,
between humans and other creatures, and between humans and God Almighty. A good
relationship can be developed by carrying out all God's commands and at the same time
avoiding all His prohibitions. Through religion, the belief is instilled that carrying out God's
commands is a good deed that will bring rewards. On the other hand, breaking God's
prohibitions is a sin that will bring punishment. With this kind of belief, religion plays a very
important role in controlling the behavior of human life
