Scenario

My Zero lab is currently functioning with 5 branches around Sri Lanka. They are located in
Colombo- 4, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna and Colombo-5. The New Board of Directors have decided
to open new branch in Colombo -7 due to the high demand. The CEO Dias has hired you as
the New Network Engineer to design the network for the New branch in Colombo -7. The
CEO is expecting the new network to be secure, reliable with high availability. The
requirements are stated below and the CEO is open for new suggestions for the network.

 There are five different labs to be created. Lab1-lab5 with 25,15,30,10,7 (pcs).

 There will be 4 manager and 10 admins to be recruited. They should be located in two different
networks.

 All labs should be in different network and all files should be stored in a central location.

 IP addresses should be assigned automatically to all the lab pcs and the admin should be able to
access the labs remotely.

 Each department should have a printer to function smoothly.

 The user should be able to access internet through a Proxy server.

 Stateful firewall need to be implemented.

 All labs should be assigned with a C IP address (private IP address range).

 The company should have their own mail server and database server.

 The domain and backup domain controller should be used by the lab for managing the network.

 The manager and admins shall only have access to Wi-Fi network.

3
Tasks

1. Identify required types of different types of servers, switches, cables and end devices
for My Zero lab and critically discuss your selections. Any assumptions made should
be justified. (LO1) (15 Marks)

2. Design a suitable network and match your design with My Zero lab specification
(LO3) (25 Marks)
a. Need to show your detailed network diagram clearly

b. Describe your network design clearly by using your own words

3. Discuss on relevant IEEE 802 standards and recommend proper one for the
organization. Evaluate the most suitable Topology for the new network and justify
your reasons clearly. (LO2) (15 Marks)

4. Explain OSI reference model along with protocols and map network devices which
you have used when design your network. (LO2) (20 Marks)

5. Recommend the enhancements you could include into this network in terms of
hardware, software, design and technology. (LO2, LO4) (20 Marks)

a. Provide honest assessment of the strength and weakness of your network.

b. Provide detail recommendation with innovative ideas

6. Maintain proper document format. (5 Marks)
