9.3.3.17.2.1 Carry out the concealed conduit work after the construction of masonry walls
but before the plastering work starts.
9.3.3.17.2.2 Once the curing of brickwork is completed, carry out the chasing work.
Ideally, maintain a gap of 7 days between the two activities.
9.3.3.17.2.3 Do the wall chasing with wall cutters only as this would avoid damage to the
walls.
9.3.3.17.2.4 Fix the electrical conduits with the approved clips to ensure proper routing
and wiring.
9.3.3.17.2.5 Once the conduits, boxes and accessories are fixed, fill the chiselled surface
with cement mortar and chick mesh wrapped around the conduits.
9.3.3.17.2.6 Start the wall conducting activity with level marking on the wall, keeping the
height above FFL (Finished floor level) in mind.
9.3.3.17.2.7 Limit the width of chasing as per the number of conduits.
9.3.3.17.2.8 The depth of chasing should be at least 10 mm from the masonry wall to have
the conduit recess.
9.3.3.17.2.9 Make sure that all the horizontal conduit runs are straight at the box level.
The light point conduit should run straight vertically to the switch box. Make
sure no wall conduit is taken haphazardly. Don’t use any elbows or bends. Use
a spring to bend if you want to change the direction of the pipe.
9.3.3.17.2.10 Don’t run power conduits near any communication line. Run the
conduits above the false ceiling with proper support. Don’t rest them on the
false ceiling in any case. Seal the vertical runs with open ends at the top if you
have false ceiling work.

9.3.3.17.3 Installation of switchboard back boxes

9.3.3.17.3.1 Fix the concealed switchboard properly in level based on the architect’s
design, for example, distance and height from the finished floor level (FFL).
9.3.3.17.3.2 Ensure that the gap between the concealed switchboards is uniform.
Maintain the same uniformity across all the installations.
9.3.3.17.3.3 The switchboards must be readymade modular type metal boxes of the
approved make. Fix the concealed box 3 mm below the plastered surface.
9.3.3.17.3.4 Finish the box fixing before the plastering work while doing the wall
conduiting. Fill the boxes with thermocol while the plastering work is being
done.

9.3.4 Step 4: Termination of conductors

9.3.4.1 Choose appropriate crimpers. While crimping, take care to align the jaws on the connector
for applying pressure to the handles. Failing to align the jaws can lead to improper
crimping.

Level 08 (floor 7), West Tower, Monem Business District 111, Bir Uttam C.R. Dutta
Road (Sonargaon Road),Dhaka-1205, Bangladesh

9.3.4.2 It is important to make sure the die is appropriate for your wire gauge, as each piece is
designed for a specific range.

Select the gauge of the wire needed to crimp-

 Red wire insulation is 22- to 16-gauge.
 Blue wire insulation is 16- to 14-gauge.
 Yellow wire insulation is 12- to 10-gauge.
 If wire doesn't have colored insulation, check the packaging for its gauge.

9.3.4.3 Put ¼ inch of the wire in crimping die.

9.3.4.4 Pull the insulation away to expose the bare wire inside. Apply pressure to the crimper
handles and pull the tool away from the wire to rip the insulation off. The exposed wire
inside should be the same length as the metal connector barrel.

9.3.4.5 Twist the exposed wire together to make it denser.

9.3.4.6 Insert the wire into the connector until the insulation touches the barrel.

9.3.4.7 Place the barrel of the connector into the appropriate crimper slot. Place the terminal in
the horizontal position with its barrel side facing upward and the flat side facing
downward. Now, hold the tool perpendicular to the barrel. For tools with colored
markings, match the insulation with the appropriate color on the crimper.

9.3.4.8 Squeeze the crimper over the barrel with considerable force. For manual crimpers, hold
the tool perpendicular to the terminal and over the barrel—closer to the ring than the
wire insulation. Hold the crimper steady and squeeze the handles with a considerable
amount of force. Don't worry about applying too much pressure—it's nearly impossible
to "over crimp."

9.3.5 Step 5: Measurement

9.3.5.1 Measurement of Insulation Resistance Test

9.3.5.1.1 After completion of conduit wiring necessary megger test should be performed
using the 500-1000V Insulation Tester instrument. Calibration certificate shall be
available at site during the measurement of insulation resistance.

9.3.5.1.2 Fluke 1500C 5kV or standard digital insulation tester will be used and instruction
manual is included in Attachment 5. The measurement result shall be within
allowed limit as per specification.

Particular Result

Conduit wiring in MΩ

9.3.5.1.3 Insulation resistance is measured between the (+) and (-) output connectors.
Guard (G) terminal remains unconnected except the case of very high resistance
measurement.

9.3.5.1.4 Test voltage and time limit shall be defined before leads are connected to the
desired points.

9.3.5.1.5 Connect the positive (+) and negative (-) test leads to the corresponding inputs of
the tester as appeared in Fig.11.

Fig. 11 Digital Insulation Resistance Tester

9.3.5.1.6 The Insulation resistance test between Phase-Neutral to earth shall be carried out
on the complete installation with the main switch off, with phase and neutral
connected together, with lamps and other equipment disconnected, but with
fuses in, circuit breakers closed and all circuit switches closed.

9.3.5.1.7 In the case of a very large installation where there are many earth paths in
parallel, the reading would be expected to be lower. If this happens, the
installation should be subdivided and retested, when each part must meet the
minimum requirement. The arrangement is appeared in Fig.12.

Testing for low voltage shall be applicable as following criteria.

Circuit voltage Test Voltage IR Value (min)

Up to 500V 500V DC 0.5 MΩ

500V to 1kV 1000V DC 1 MΩ

9.3.5.1.11 Test results should be submitted to the Engineer for proper record.

9.3.5.2 Measurement of continuity

9.3.5.2.1 A digital multimeter’s Continuity Test mode can be used to test switches, fuses,
electrical connections, conductors and other components. A good fuse, for
example, should have continuity.

9.3.5.2.2 A digital multimeter emits an audible response (a beep) when it detects a

complete path.

9.3.5.2.3 When testing for continuity, a multimeter beeps based on the resistance of the
component being tested. That resistance is determined by the range setting of
the multimeter.

9.3.5.2.4 If the range is set to 400.0 Ω, a multimeter typically beeps if the component has a
resistance of 40 Ω or less.

9.3.5.2.5 If the range is set 4.000 kΩ, a multimeter typically beeps if the component has a
resistance of 200 Ω or less.

9.3.5.2.6 The lowest range setting should be used when testing circuit components that
should have low-resistance value such as electrical connections or switch
contacts.

9.3.5.2.7 Select the circuit to be tested in the distribution board and remove the Line
conductor from the MCB

9.3.5.2.8 Measure between Line and Earth terminals at each outlet in the circuit. The
highest reading should be recorded on the schedule of Test Results as the value of
(R1+R2).

9.3.5.2.9 Return the Line conductor back in to the MCB

9.3.5.2.10 Test results should be submitted to the Engineer for proper record.

LIMITED WARRANTY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Each Fluke product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The warranty period is three years and begins
on the date of shipment. Parts, product repairs, and services are warranted for 90 days. This warranty extends only to the original buyer or end-user customer of a
Fluke authorized reseller, and does not apply to fuses, disposable batteries, or to any product which, in Fluke's opinion, has been misused, altered, neglected,
contaminated, or damaged by accident or abnormal conditions of operation or handling. Fluke warrants that software will operate substantially in accordance with its
functional specifications for 90 days and that it has been properly recorded on non-defective media. Fluke does not warrant that software will be error free or operate
without interruption.
Fluke authorized resellers shall extend this warranty on new and unused products to end-user customers only but have no authority to extend a greater or different
warranty on behalf of Fluke. Warranty support is available only if product is purchased through a Fluke authorized sales outlet or Buyer has paid the applicable
international price. Fluke reserves the right to invoice Buyer for importation costs of repair/replacement parts when product purchased in one country is submitted for
repair in another country.
Fluke's warranty obligation is limited, at Fluke's option, to refund of the purchase price, free of charge repair, or replacement of a defective product which is returned
to a Fluke authorized service center within the warranty period.
To obtain warranty service, contact your nearest Fluke authorized service center to obtain return authorization information, then send the product to that service
center, with a description of the difficulty, postage and insurance prepaid (FOB Destination). Fluke assumes no risk for damage in transit. Following warranty repair,
the product will be returned to Buyer, transportation prepaid (FOB Destination). If Fluke determines that failure was caused by neglect, misuse, contamination,
alteration, accident, or abnormal condition of operation or handling, including overvoltage failures caused by use outside the product’s specified rating, or normal
wear and tear of mechanical components, Fluke will provide an estimate of repair costs and obtain authorization before commencing the work. Following repair, the
product will be returned to the Buyer transportation prepaid and the Buyer will be billed for the repair and return transportation charges (FOB Shipping Point).
THIS WARRANTY IS BUYER'S SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY AND IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT
NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. FLUKE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR
ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM ANY CAUSE OR
THEORY.
Since some countries or states do not allow limitation of the term of an implied warranty, or exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, the
limitations and exclusions of this warranty may not apply to every buyer. If any provision of this Warranty is held invalid or unenforceable by a court or other decision-
maker of competent jurisdiction, such holding will not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision.
