The Joy Luck Club

House Final Project

Objectives:

1. We will collaborate with our peers to trace thematic connections throughout our family lineage,
analyzing the novel on a holistic level.

2. We will then convey this expert analysis to the remainder of the class, creating an informative and
engaging presentation that effectively communicates our interpretations.

Directions:

With your House, trace the themes woven throughout your mother-daughter chapters and then
develop an informative digital presentation to convey your analysis to the class. How you choose to
organize and present your information is completely up to you, though each chapter should
introduce a clear and concise theme statement(s) and be supported with at least two sets of
examples, quotes, and commentary. In addition, strengthen your analysis by analyzing symbols,
motifs, and other elements of craft that Tan uses to support her main ideas.

You are required to also submit a handout with at least five, strategically placed questions, which
your peers can use to identify key information throughout your presentation. This will be due the
Monday evening before you present.

ALL members must participate equally in the construction and delivery of your presentation, which,
ultimately, cannot exceed 10 minutes in length and should be an interactive way to engage and
inform your audience.
