Card Printer Firmware Update: Before You Begin
Card Printer Firmware Update: Before You Begin
Use the Card Printer Firmware Update program and these instructions to update the firmware in
the card printer.
USB-connected printers must have the Card Printer Driver installed before you start the firmware
update.
Make sure that all system components, such as a laminator or embosser, are connected
properly and powered on. The USER button on the printer glows green, and Ready displays on
the front panel when the system is ready.
Connecting the printer to the PC via USB requires the Card Printer Driver.
Installing the Card Printer Driver is optional for network-connected printers.
Firmware Update Program. Use the enclosed CD, or download the appropriate firmware
update program file. Contact your service provider for assistance, if needed.
Continuous electrical power to the printer. If power to the printer is interrupted before the
new firmware file completely replaces the old file, the printer defaults to the original
firmware.
It may take several minutes for the installer to start as the installation files are
prepared.
2. A message displays when the setup files are installed. Click OK.
If the Card Printer Driver has been installed, select the printer you want to update from

Warning: Do not power off the printer during the update process. If you need to power off
the printer, wait until the update completes and the printer has restarted.
Important:
If you are updating firmware in different types of printers, the amount of time required to
transfer the new firmware file to each printer may vary.
As the firmware is updated, the printer's front panel displays the message Downloading
Firmware and the percentage complete. The USER button light glows green.
If the printer is interrupted during the firmware update process—for example, due to a
power failure or a disconnected power cable—the firmware stays at the current version.
You must restart the Firmware Update program to update to the newer version.
If you have a USB connection to the printer, the Firmware Update program might fail to
find the printer after it is updated. This is because the printer address has changed. You
can ignore this error message. The printer firmware has been updated correctly.
