Lesson Description
Warm-up/ 9:00am-9:15am I would begin the lesson with a menti-meter asking the students what words come to mind when they think of
Introduction structural changes, what words come to mind when they hear stewardship of creation and what words come to mind when they
hear the world social structures.

9:15am- 9:25am: After the menti-meter I will lead a discussion on the ideas mentioned, explain what social institutions are, social
structures, and the stewardship of creation Catholic social teaching. This will be presented to students in a slide show.
Input 9:25am-9:50am:
After the discussion, I will divide the class into groups to analyze different structural changes as a result of environment.

They will analyze the structural changes presented to them and they will have to plan a way to help fix the structural changes.

They will then have to connect their solution to the stewardship of creation Catholic social teaching and how their solution
demonstrates how we are called to help protect people and the planet and how these changes they are creating will benefit the
overall good of society.

9:50am-10:00am:

The students will then discuss with one another how they feel that individuals are influenced by social institutions in their life. They
will discuss if they feel that the institution of religion has an impact on their lives and if so is this influence good or bad and explain
why. This discussion will take place within the divided group and then the students will break out and have a larger classroom
discussion.

Closing: 10:00am-10:25:

Reflection. In the student’s daily journals, they will reflect on the ideas we have discussed. They will have some
prompts to answer one being: how are you a steward of creation? If they cannot think of anything, think about ways
you can become a steward of God’s creation.
