Condensate flash vessels are used in steam plants to reduce condensate pressure from high-pressure steam consumers, causing some condensate to revaporize into flash steam. The flash vessel separates the flash steam from the water, feeding the steam into a low-pressure system and discharging the water to a condensate tank. Blowdown flash vessels are similarly used when flash steam forms downstream of continuous blowdown valves to utilize that steam. Both vessel types come in standard sizes to handle typical condensate flowrates and volumes at operating pressures up to 28 bar and temperatures up to 250°C, using carbon steel or cast iron materials.
