Solar Power vs. Wind Power
Today is the era of the 21st-century humans are getting advanced in every field of life In this
advanced era to fulfill the increasing demand for energy people are switching towards renewable,
economical, sustainable, and carbon-free energy resources in which Solar and Wind energy are
more significant. Solar power energy is generated by capturing sun energy and converted it into
electricity. Sun energy is released in the form of photons which hit the solar cell and release
electrons these loose electrons generate electricity. On the other hand, wind power is generated
when the wind moves the propeller-like blades of a wind turbine around a rotor these mechanical
Solar power can be generated on both sunny and cloudy days. Solar panels are designed
efficiently such that they can store visible, infrared, and ultraviolet light that can produce
electricity even on cloudy days. The wind power plant can only be installed in such places where
Solar power plants can be installed anywhere their face must be towards the sun but required a
larger area for installation and that area needs to be exposed to sunlight for the majority of the
day. The area required by the wind turbine is less than the solar system. The wind turbine must
be 30 feet above the ground and in an area of frequent and sustained air.
Solar power energy can be used for industrial as well as domestic purposes because it requires
less area compared to wind energy. While wind plants are unfavorable in urban areas due to
noise. At high wind speed, small turbines operate around 10dB which cause bothersome for
residential areas.
As a general rule of thumb cost for installing a solar system is about 2.19 dollars per watt on
average for both residential and commercial installations. The larger the system will be lesser

will be the cost per unit watt and the smaller system will cause high cost. 2.19 dollars is the
average cost for both smaller and larger systems. The wind power plant for larger utility-scale
will cause 1.5 dollars per watt. So wind energy is a cheaper option than solar energy.
Solar and wind power energy both are advanced technologies this advancement helped to
minimize the electric cost but there is some maintenance required by both systems. Solar systems
require less maintenance cost because this system has no moving parts means less mechanical
damage and mostly solar components are well guaranteed by the manufacturer. Most solar panels
come with the guarantee of 25-30 years it means faulty panels can be replaced by the
manufacturer free of cost. And very much less cost require to clean and regular maintenance of
panels. On the other hand, the wind turbine has large moving parts and often requires ongoing
maintenance. Wind turbines require two to three time’s preventive maintenance annually. As the
system goes age’s frequency of maintenance checkups increases. So wind turbine even though
requires less installation cost but its maintenance cost is very much expensive.
Solar and wind power systems are renewable clean energy sources that emit less CO2 in the
environment and keep the environment clean. Each system has its benefits depends on the area
