SUMMARY

FIRST ACT

This story begins in the bachelors flat of Algernon, where him and Lane
(his servant) discuss about the marriages. Algernon thinks that the
marriages are boring, and Lane thinks that the marriages are enjoyable.
Lane talks with Algernon about a marriage that he had, but Moncrieff
wasn’t interested about Lane’s life, so he stopped the conversation.

A little bit later, Earnest arrives to the flat and he goes in. Then they
started to talk. When they were talking, Earnest said to Algernon that he
loved Gwendolen (Algernon’s sister) and he was going to ask her to marry
him. Algernon didn’t like the idea of his friend marrying his sister because
he saw a dedication on his cigarette case of a girl called Cecily and said
that he wasn’t accepting the marriage unless Earnest talks about that girl.

Earnest confessed to Algernon that he was named Earnest in the city and
Jack in the town, and Cecily is his ward. He says that in the town he has a
brother in the city called Earnest using this as an excuse to go to the city
regularly. Then, Algernon confessed to Earnest that he has a friend called
Bunbury in the town that was ill and that he used this as a pretext to go to
the town regularly.

Then, Lane interrupts the conversation to say that Lady Bracknell and Lady
Gwendolen arrived to the flat. Then, lady Bracknell and Algernon started
to talk about that night dinner and Algernon said that he wasn’t going
because he had to visit his friend Bunbury in the town because he was ill
again.

In that moment, Earnest took the opportunity to ask Gwendolen to marry

him. She accepted because she was in love of the name ‘’Earnest’’ .

Lady Bracknell didn’t accept this unless Earnest answered some questions.
Lady Bracknell was making the questions to Earnest and he was answering
well, until she asked where Jack was from. Earnest said that he didn’t
know and Lady Bracknell didn’t accept the marriage.

SECOND ACT

This act happens in Manor’s house garden. She was with Cecily and her
governess called Prims. They were talking about Jack and his crazy brother
called Earnest, when they saw Chasuble entering to the garden.

He was there because he was interested in talking with Prims, but she was
having a headache and her and the doctor went for a walk.

Then, Marruman appeared, with a card in a tray and saying that Earnest
arrived. Then, Cecily said to Marruman that Earnest could pass. Algernon,
pretending to be Jack’s brother, entered to meet Cecily.

Then, after the walk, the doctor and Prims arrived to the house with
Worthing.

Neverthless, that situation was weird, because Cecily noticed that his
brother was there and was trying to stay there a week.

This caused the anger of Jack, since his friend had tried to pretend to be
his brother to enter his house, ruining his plans and to make it worse, he
had committed to Cecily.

But, unfortunately for Jack and Algernon, Miss Gwendolen appeared at

the house, causing a conflict between her and Cardew, due to her claiming
that she was engaged to Earnest just like Cecily.

This situation led to another problem and the resolution of the truth of
Algernon and Jack's lie, even so. This made the indignation of the two
young ladies.
