Apps Tool v2.0

Introduction
One issue customers noted about programming Sedona Controllers was the in ability of controllers to be
programmed “offline”. Pre-programming of Sedona devices required that a customer connect to a real
controller, “offline programming” was not possible.

Understanding customer requirements for efficiency improvements, EasyIO have created a very useful
and time effective program called the “Apps Tool”, (previously known as The Sedona Manager).

This tool has been created for EasyIO users to enable creation, editing and testing of FG Series
applications offline, using a Windows based, Sedona Virtual Machine (SVM) environment on your PC.

When running, the “Apps Tool” emulates the EasyIO FG Series controller in an SVM environment on your
computer, thus eliminating the need for FG Series hardware connections for Sedona application
development.
This tool supports newer hardware as well such as FS Series and FW Series.

Using the Apps Tool means that development of Sedona applications can now be achieved anywhere
and at anytime in an “offline” environment.

Prerequisites
1. CPT Tool dated 10th Oct 2018 or later. Latest CPT at the time of the document is 17th Dec 2018.
2. Apps Tool v1.15 preferable with latest SVM. Latest SVM at the time of document
Latest template at the time of document is as below.

Step 4
The default Sedona folder for Apps Tool is reference to its local Sedona folder.

If a custom Sedona folder is prefer manually reference the Sedona folder to the preferred location.

Step 5
Click the “Create” button to create a new app.

Step 6
A “New Sedona Application” pop up window will appear after the create button has been clicked. In the
“Application Name” box, type a name of your choice for the newly created app.
In the “SVM Version” drop down menu, choose the easyioFG_V1.5b50a for FG Series
(just an example, make sure template selected according to respective hardware intended to run the
application)
(This file version may differ depending on the latest update of the Apps Tool, always select the latest
SVM version. )

Refer to the image below as an example.

In the example below the Apps Tool will create an app for FG series controller with the latest available
kits pre-defined automatically in the file.
If required Sedona Kits in the app can be updated at a later stage in CPT Tools.

Step 8
Once the App has been successfully created, select the App from the drop down list. In the example
below, the “Application Options” drop down list shows the “FG_virtual_test_apps” which is the name of
the App created in the previous steps. Make sure your newly created App is selected.

Run the Sedona App by clicking the “start” button.

Step 9

indicating that the App has successfully started and is running in the SVM environment.

Step 10
To connect to the Sedona App running in the SVM environment using either the Niagara Workbench or
CPT Tools enter the following connection details into the appropriate areas required for the tool being
used.

Apps Tool v2.0

Host IP : localhost (as the App is in running in the SVM environment on the PC)
Username : admin
Password : <no password> or blank

Notes
Once the Sedona App has been successfully created and started, the Sedona App will be actually running
in the Windows environment, and emulating the EasyIO FG series controller.
All the Sedona functions are operational.

Kits can be manage/installed as required.

It is not possible for the Apps Tool to create the necessary connections to the PC COM port to emulate
the COM2 port on an FG Series controller. Therefore it is not possible to connect Modbus slave devices
to the PC for testing during emulation. Full configuration of the Modbus devices is possible during
emulation.
