INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ACTIVE RECREATION

• Recreation – is a voluntary participation in an activity during free and

unobligated time that gives enjoyment.
- It refreshes one’s mind and the body after a day’s work.
- Revitalize all the aspects of life (physical, mental, social and emotional)
- Embraces both indoor and outdoor activities that refer to sports and
exercise leading to the attainment and enjoyment as well as managing
our desired weight.

• Indoor Recreation- when an activity is within the premises of your

comfort zone, at home or inside a building. Example of indoor
recreational activities are chess, table tennis, bowling, dancing, singing,
reading, listening to music, watching movies and more of the same.

→ Benefits of Indoor Activities:

One of the greatest advantages of indoor activities is that they can be

done in all weathers because you’re under the roof of the building. Moreover,
this type of recreation boosts creative flow and decreases the risk of injury
because it is known as a more passive one.

• Outdoor Recreation- when the activity is undertaken in a natural,

rural, or open space outside the confines of buildings, usually large land
area that is close to nature. Example of outdoor recreational activities
are nature walks, river rafting, cycling, camping, orienteering, fishing,
hiking, surfing and sports.

→ Benefits of Outdoor Activities:

Here are some major advantages of being outside:

1.Improve your well-being: If you prefer any outdoor activity, it means that
you’re ready to engage in some form of physical activity. It doesn’t really
matter whether you play any sports or just stroll in the nearest park, these
kinds of recreation boost physical exercise and enhance your general well-
being. Moreover, getting outside you is an easy way to catch Vitamin D from
the sunlight.

2.Develop physical flexibility and coordination: Simple outdoor games or

aerobic in the yard can increase coordination and muscle strength, reinforce
bones and joints, and improve a sense of balance.

3.Build better mental health: During physical activities like hiking and
climbing you can train not only your body parts, but you can also exercise
your mind. By exploring and navigating a particular area, you develop your
learning capabilities.

4.Relieve stress and anxiety: Your life is always busy and, of course, it’s filled
with various extremely stressful situations. One of the best way to calm your
anxious mind and feel the harmony with the world around you is to engage
in outdoor activities.

5.Enhance your communication skills: Being outside is a good opportunity to

meet some new people and choose the form of physical activity that will allow
you to interact with them.

Let Us Reflect

I hope you learned a lot about our lesson for today. Daily physical
activity is one of the key components in developing and leading a healthy
lifestyle. Physical activity improves overall quality of life. It helps to boost
energy, assists with weight management and improves self-esteem. Most
importantly, regular physical activity will increase longevity by directly
decreasing the risk of chronic disease such as: heart disease, hypertension,
diabetes, stroke and some cancers.

Improving your overall fitness can help you no matter what sport or
other form of exercise you engage in. But where performance is concerned,
the greatest improvements arise from training that develops the skills
specifically related to your activity of choice.

Congratulations! You have done great job and accomplished lesson 1

of our module. I hope you will continue to learn and have fun with the
following modules. God bless!
