The Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are the most famous
symbols of Egypt. The Great Pyramid was built by the ancient
Egyptian king, or pharaoh (fay-roh), Khufu, to serve as his tomb. It is
made of more than 2 million stones.

The Great Wall
The Chinese began working on this 4,000-mile long wall in the 770
B.C. It was built to protect China's borders from nomadic tribes and to
keep invaders out. The Wall is the longest man-made structure in the
world. Its five stone sections include forts and towers, where soldiers
used to keep watch. Considered one of the Seven Wonders of the
World, the Great Wall is visited by an estimated 13 million people a
year.
Agra
The Taj Mahal in the city of Agra is perhaps India's most famous
landmark. In 1638, Emperor Shah Jahan began building it as a marble
tomb for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. With precious gems and
stones pressed into its walls, the Taj Mahal took 22,000 workmen 22
years to complete. It is known as the eighth wonder of the world.
Rome
When in Rome, do as the Romans: Surround yourself with art and
history as you eat delicious pasta dishes. Between meals, visit the
Vatican, the home of the Catholic Church and a separate country
within the city of Rome. Gaze up into the floating dome at the
Pantheon, which was built in 27 B.C. Then head over to the
Colosseum, an amphitheater that dates back to A.D. 80 and has secret
passageways that tourists now explore.
Paris
Paris, also known as the city of light, is the capital of France and home
to the 1069 foot-tall Eiffel Tower. Paris also offers some of the finest
museums in the world, including the giant Louvre (pronounced loov).
The Louvre houses the Mona Lisa, widely recognized as the most
famous painting in the history of art, and many other well-known
artworks.
