III. PROCEDURE
EXPLORE
- Ask questions about an experience of group games by giving examples that they have played.
- Facilitate any popular children’s group game that can be played inside the classroom. After the game, ask the pupils if
they enjoyed the game. Let them explain why then enjoyed or not.

FIRM- UP
- Give the items in Own that Word as a short quiz. After checking, call on pupils to use the words in own meaningful
sentences.
- Read the sentences and let them take note of the underlined words. Let them incircle the word inside the box that is
closest in meaning to the underlined word in each sentence. Then do oral recitation to chosen few learners by making and

- Why do we have to be familiar with sound devices and how important it is for us to know the use of different sound
devices?

- Our world is naturally filled with patterns of sounds. These sounds in nature inspire us to create our own rhythm. The
pleasantness of sounds is mostly ties up with the ease by which they are produced and the naturalness by which they are
perceived by the senses. Sound devises are used by writers to make readers ”hear” even while just reading. They are
intended to make writing more vivid, more pleasant to the ears, and therefore mush more interesting to read.

- Ask the pupils to circle all the words in the short story which represent sounds. Encourage the pupils to produce the
sound of each circled word.

F.A. RAP BATTLE


Show the pupils a video of a level and age-appropriate rap music video. They may then be encouraged to compose and
perform a short rap. Write on the board lines from pupils’ rap that contain sound devices.

TRANSFER
There will be a competition next week in SAA where the participants are categorized into two, the Elementary Category and
Secondary Category. The contest is in preparation for the upcoming Earth Hour Celebration of the city whereas the entire cityhood
will enjoy. As a preparation, you divide your class into groups with three to five members. Have them compose a 15-line rap that
makes use of sound devices. The subject for the rap should be the blessings that can be derived from nature. Use the rubric to give
appropriate marks to every performance.

IV. ASSESSMENT
- Write questions that you would want to post in an online forum allotted for a discussion of sound devices in literature. Write at
least 5.
- Let them answer the test questions on page 8 in the book.
V. ASSIGNMENT
- On a sheet of paper (1 whole) write a short reflection on what you think makes one a hero based on what you have read
online. Don’t forget to state everything clearly and legibly.
- Study in advance for the continuation of the discussion.
- Find other examples of sound devices from television, radio, and print advertisements.

EXPLORE
- Begin the lesson by facilitating the “riddle” game. Divide the class into two groups. As quiz master, give a set of
riddles for the groups (or the group representatives to answer). The first to get the answer correctly gets the point.
The group with the higher score wins. Ask the class what kind of question the items were and how they were able to
answer them. Tell them that the character in the selection they are about to read also won in a similar contest.

FIRM- UP
- Engage the class to answer the items in the book as stated and dictated by the teacher. Tell them that getting the
meaning of difficult words is similar to answering riddles. Emphasize that in the case of the words given in the
exercise, clues are provided. Have the class note the words or phrases that helped them infer the meaning of each
word.
- Challenge the pupils with this question: “Now that you have proven yourselves to be very good at answering riddles
and getting the meaning of difficult words, do you think you can now compete in an online riddle contest? Lead the
pupils to the text by directing them to the introduction of the selection.

F.A. RIDDLE MASTER


As a warming down activity, encourage the class to have another round of asking and answering riddles. This time though,
encourage them to create their own riddles. Be sure to check first the riddles and somehow evident to what the created riddle
emphasizes.

TRANSFER
There is an upcoming contest in your school and you want to participate. it is all about answering and questioning about
riddles. As a preparation, divide the class into two groups with three to four members and let them come up with a word
puzzle (cross word or word search) where the clues that will be given are in the form of sentences that use context clues.
Have them reproduce their puzzle and distribute to their classmates for answering and for compilation into their very own
context clues booklet. You may encourage creativity and among others that are included in the rubric by letting pupils set a
theme or a background story for their puzzle. Be guided with the rubrics to hit the desired marks.

IV. ASSESSMENT
- Answer the workbook properly. Follow simple instructions. “Using context clues, identify the word whose meaning
is closest to the underlined word in each sentence”
- Write the questions in On Your Mark. . . On sheets of paper covered with another sheet with a big question mark
(symbol for riddle). Place them on the board and call on pupils to uncover the answer the question on each one.
- Answer the Activity on pp. 10- 12 under On Target.
- Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate grammatical structures particularly by involving and
containing aspects of verbs

V. ASSIGNMENT
 Riddles are fun to solve and they sharpen our thinking skills, too. Ask your parents some riddles and translate it in
English (if the riddle given is vernacular) and solve the following riddles. Prepare to share the riddle with your classmates
 Search the definition of the words given by the teacher and construct a sentence using the said word Get ready for an oral
recitation on the scheduled date.

EXPLORE
- Ask the pupils to look at the photo on page 3 of the textbook. Tell them to identify the different musical symbols they
see. Lead them to the correct answers.
- Explain that symbols represent an idea, object, or action. For example, personal names represent an individual while
traffic signs give order in the streets.

- Refer the pupils to the photos on page 89 of the textbook. Ask them what they see.
- Ask the following questions: Have you ever tried drawing with a computer? Which one is better – to draw and color in
pencil or crayons, or draw using your computers? Why do you say so?

- Ask the pupils to do simple exercise


- Let them do the basic “Head to Toe” pattern in performing the said exercise.

At the wrist. Place the middle finger on the wrist and find the radial artery. Press firmly with flat fingers until you feel the pulse.
Count the number of pulse beats in one minute. The lower the pulse beats the better. Use the chart in the table on page 160 of the
textbook as guide.
