Belief Statements
I believe in building trustworthy connections
In order to have a successful classroom, students need to feel a sense of comfortability and safety in their own learning environment. Forming a classroom with an accepting, trusting and loving environment encourages students to engage more in classroom activities. I believe students are deeply affected by knowing their teachers care for more than just their grades, but them as a person as well.
I believe in embracing diversity in the classroom
Inclusiveness is an important part of a successful classroom. Teaching and learning about the different cultures, beliefs or backgrounds of your students not only teaches the students about diversity but allows students to feel valued. Feeling not only valued, but accepted in the classroom can help students feel comfortable with themselves and their classmates. I believe in student incorporated learning Students often learn more when engaging in the lesson, rather than sitting through a lecture every day. Incorporating group learning as well as assignments can allow students to see a concept from a different point of view. I believe in including social and emotional learning Teaching students the importance and the use of social and emotional skills can change students attitude or perspective on their education. As well as the use of the skills when it comes to working with students or talking to others in general. It can help students understand the classroom expectations regarding manners and attitude. Teaching students these skills may also assist students in out of the class situations.
I believe in promoting learning differences
Regardless of grade or age, every student learns differently. Promoting and being openly positive about students learning differences can help students understand their learning style and better their grasp of what they learn. How a student learns is important for not only the teacher to know for their assignments and how they are taught but important for the student themselves to know. I believe in constructing student academic confidence Students can sometimes become discouraged and lose confidence in themselves and their capabilities. Constructing and encouraging self confidence in students regarding their schoolwork can help students understand that it is okay to make a mistake and that it does not define you as a student. Students will feel better about their work knowing that you as their teacher believe in them and their academic success. As well as having that confidence in themselves.
