CLE2023-GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory Digital Assignment-6

This document provides instructions for creating vector data in GIS software. It involves 6 steps: 1) importing a base image, 2) creating point, line, polygon, and multipoint shapefiles and assigning attributes, 3) digitizing features from the image onto the shapefiles, 4) editing the layer styles, 5) correcting any mistakes, and 6) saving edits. The results section includes screenshots of the image with shapefiles, attribute tables, and layer trees with symbology. The conclusion states that vector data was successfully created following these steps.

CLE2023-GIS and Remote Sensing

Laboratory Digital Assignment-6

NAME: DEDEFO KEDIR ABDELA

REG NO: 18BCL0251
COURSE: GIS and Remote sensing
EXERCISE 6
CREATION OF VECTOR DATA

Aim;
To create vector data
Data Used;
Base image
Procedure;
Step 1;
▪ Browse and import base image
Step 2;
▪ Create point, line and polygon data;
➢ Point
▪ Create layer; go to layer> create layer >new shapefile layer
▪ Name the file and save (tree)
▪ Assign the geometry type to point
▪ Make sure the CRS is EPGS:4326-WGS 84
▪ Give new field attribute format (ID, name and height) and data type
▪ To check and edit (add color, manage data, color etc.)layers go to Open
attribute table
➢ line
▪ Create layer; go to layer> create layer >new shapefile layer
▪ Name the file and save (Routes)
▪ Assign the geometry type to line
▪ Make sure the CRS is EPGS:4326-WGS 84
▪ Give new field attribute format (ID, name and length) and data type
▪ To check and edit (add color ,manage data ,color etc…)layers go to Open
attribute table
➢ Polygon
▪ Create layer; go to layer> create layer >new shapefile layer
▪ Name the file and save (land use )
▪ Assign the geometry type to polygon
▪ Make sure the CRS is EPGS:4326-WGS 84
▪ Give new field attribute format (ID, type, name and area ) and data type
▪ To check and edit (add color ,manage data ,color etc…)layers go to Open
attribute table

➢ Multipoint
▪ Create layer; go to layer> create layer >new shapefile layer
▪ Name the file and save (tree points )
▪ Assign the geometry type to multipoint
▪ Make sure the CRS is EPGS:4326-WGS 84
▪ Give new field attribute format (ID, type and leave type ) and data type
▪ To check and edit (add color ,manage data ,color etc…)layers go to Open
attribute table

Step 3;
Digitize the image and add features
▪ Go to view >toolbars
▪ Enable digitizing and advance digitizing toolbar if not
▪ Select layer (one of the four), then toggle editing and add features from
toolbars
▪ Add features in relation to relevance created vector data to the areas feature
like point for tree, line for route and multipoint for group of trees
▪ Based on the selected layer select feature from image (for specific area)
▪ Fill the attribute accordingly
▪ Save edit
▪ To check and edit layers attribute go to Open attribute table
▪ Repeat this step for each created layer
Step 4;
Edit looks of layer for better visual understanding if need
▪ Go layer property
▪ Symbology then edit looks of each layer

Step 5;
Correct any mistakes using features in digitizing and advance digitizing toolbar
like vertex, delete …
Step 6;
Always Save edits

Results;

Figure 1;Image with all shape files containing point, multipoint, line and polygon features.
Figure 2;attribute table of each layer (tree ,tree points, landuse and routes )

Figure 3;layer tree with its symbology

Figure 4;layer treepoints and its symbology

Figure 5;layer landuse and its symbology

Figure 6;layer route and its symbology

Conclusion;
We have successfully created vector data.
