1 Overview
1.1 Introduction to User Software
The User Software is a Windows based and has friendly graphical user interface to
monitor and control (M&C) the Amplus BUC Redundancy System.
For communication to the Redundancy System, the User Software requires a
dedicated PC serial port (COM part) as communications channel.
1.2 The Amplus BUC Redundancy System
The Redundancy System as shown in Figure 1 is a complete system. It has the
capability to monitor and control both the redundant paths A and B and the units
belonging in the system.
It is designed to switch over to the good redundant path in case of failure in order to
preserve the transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) streams with little disruption as possible.

3 Operation
Before proceeding with the User Software operation, ensure that the Redundancy
System setup is completed and operational.
3.1 Setting up the Equipment
Use the M&C cable to connect the redundancy unit to the allotted PC serial port. It is
important that the allotted serial port (e.g. COM1, COM2 and etc.) be noted for the
serial port selection settings.
Please refer to the Installation and Operations Manual for more details.
3.2 Starting the User Software
Once installed, the User Software can be accessed via the Windows START menu as
shown in Figure 8. Refer to the path below for the location.

The User Software consists of the following M&C features:
1. Topology Selection
This feature allows the selection of the appropriate redundancy topology
from the drop-down list according to your product confoguration.
Redundancy topologies:
Tx Only - Only displays the transmit stream of the Redundancy System.
Rx Only - Only displays the receive stream of the Redundancy System
Tx&Rx - Displays both transmit and receive streams.
The current topology is periodically displayed.
2. Set Topology
Pressing the “Set topology” button displays and activates the M&C
features of the chosen topology in the topology selection list.
3. Mode Selection
This drop-down list allows user selection of the operating modes of the
Redundancy System.
Operating modes:
Manual - Automatic fault switching is disabled.
Allows toggling for both transmit and receive waveguides.
Automatic- Automatic fault switching is enabled.
The current mode is periodically displayed.
4. Set Mode
Pressing the “Set Mode” button will change the operating mode of the
redundancy system to the selected operating mode. If set at Manual, the
control for the waveguide switches will be enabled. Setting to Automatic
will disable the control for the waveguide switches.
5. Toggle Tx Waveguide
This allows toggling of the Tx waveguide position when in Manual mode.
6. Toggle Rx Waveguide
This allows toggling of the Rx waveguide position when in Manual mode.

7. System Graphical Overview
This is the real-time graphical display of the Redundancy System
transmit/receive streams used, topology, system alarms and unit status.
The graphical display also displays the position and statuses of both
transmit and receive waveguide switches.
8. Connect/Disconnect
Pressing this button which is by default named as CONNECT opens the
selected serial port in order to start the User Software and Redundancy
System communication. Successful connection will enable the M&C of
the Redundancy System and rename the button to DISCONNECT.
Pressing the button when named as DISCONNECT will open up the
selected serial port and disconnect to disable the M&C.
Ensure that the system is powered-up and operational before connecting.
9. M&C Link Indicator
Pilot orange light when blinking indicates that the User Software is
communicating with the Redundancy System.
10. Serial Port Selection
This list provides selection of the available PC serial ports for User
Software and Redundancy System communication.
11. Contact Information
The latest Amplus Communication contact information can be displayed
by clicking “Contact Us”.
12. Set BUC A PA Status
Pressing the “Set” button will change the SSPA state ON/OFF of BUC A
according to the selection.
13. Query BUC A Attenuation
This feature allows retrieving of the current attenuation value of BUC A.
14. Set BUC A Attenuation
Pressing the “Set” button changes the attenuation of BUC B according to
the selection.

15. Set Power Threshold
This feature allows customization for the user to set the Tx power
threshold (dBm) of the Redundancy System.
In the event the PA power of the active BUC falls below the power
threshold, a fault will be indicated in the User Software and the transmit
stream will switch to the other redundant stream.
IMPORTANT:
• It is recommended to set the power threshold
to about 6~10 dB below the intended Tx
operating power.
If the other redundant transmit stream has a fault then there will be no
switching.
16. Set LNB Threshold Current
This feature allows customization for the user to set the maximum and
minimum LNB current of the Redundancy System.
In the event the LNB current of the active LNB falls below or above the
threshold current range, a fault will be indicated in the User Software and
the receive stream will switch to the other redundant stream.
If the other redundant receive stream has a fault then there will be no
switching.
17. Set BUC B PA Status
Pressing the “Set” button will change the SSPA state ON/OFF of BUC B
according to the selection.
18. Query BUC B Attenuation
This feature allows retrieving of the current attenuation value of BUC B.
19. Set BUC B Attenuation
Pressing the “Set” button changes the attenuation of BUC B according to
the selection.
