RE-OPENING CHECKLIST
CHECKLIST TO RE-OPENING

For many sports and fitness business operators and owners, the thought of reopening can be both exciting and terrifying. With so many
variables on the horizon, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with the quantity of information out there, so we compiled a gym and studio
specific checklist to serve as a general guide to outline the steps and recommendations for reopening.

Every business is different, and has different needs. This checklist may include items that differ from the needs of your business, so let
this serve as a broad guide to variables you may want to consider.

Evaluate immediate needs and plan for changes

Facility and Process Considerations:
• Increase ventilation
• Embrace contact-free payment/registration methods
• Consider making non-critical communal areas (lockers, restrooms) off-limits
• Create informational (or inspirational!) signage
• Increase availability of wipes/hand sanitizer
• Mark areas on the floor or around the facility for clients to stand, workout, etc.

Operational Considerations:
• Make updates to your pricing structures (if necessary)
ex. discounts for new members or new membership tier options
• Adjust hours of operations
• Limit class sizes to encourage physical distancing

Engage Staff Members Effectively

Will you be bringing laid off or furloughed employees back? If so, in what capacity? Determine any necessary updates to your staffing
protocol, including how many employees you’ll need to keep operations running smoothly and what procedures they’ll need to follow
upon their return.. Anticipate that some staff may not be returning to the workplace, and get in contact with them early to plan ahead.

• Make changes to employee handbook

This may include...
Requiring PPE
Outlining steps for monitoring and reporting signs of illness and exposure
Reiterating importance of hand-washing before and after class, and upon arrival
Requiring that they complete a COVID-19 Risk Assessment regularly
Outlining your expectations for updated sanitation protocols
• Post informational signage at time clocks, in break-rooms, employee restrooms etc.
• Prepare guides/talking points for leaders to encourage employees to follow recommended practices
• Schedule staff meeting to review changes and familiarize with new protocols. Use this as an opportunity to get your team fired up
and ready to come out of this stronger!

Clean, clean, and clean again

• Enhance frequency and thoroughness of daily sanitation practices, especially on high touch areas (hand-held items, weights,
machines, restrooms, shelves, mats, door handles, etc.)
• Schedule for third-party cleaning companies to assist with the increased demand for cleaning
• Procure masks, wipes, sanitizers, cleaning items, and other necessary supplies
