13- THE TEACHING PROFESSION

MODULE 6

NAME: MARWIN G. SONEJA CLASS SCHEDULE: MWF (5:30-6:30)

ACTIVITY I. – THE TECAHER ANT THE STATE

1. Why are schools called the "nurseries of the citizens of the state"?
 Schools are compared to nurseries because all children of any State enter school to achieve
the right education and proper training to become a productive citizen in the future. Also,
schools pass on beyond knowledge and literacy skills, it also teaches cultural norms and values
to young generations.
2. "Each teacher is a trustee of the cultural and educational heritage of the nation and is
under obligation to transmit and to learn such heritage" what way can teacher do this?
 Teacher's Code of Ethics states that "each teacher is viewed as a trustee of the cultural and
educational heritage of the nation, and is under obligation to transmit to learners such heritage
as well as to elevate national morality, promote national pride, cultivate love of country, instill
allegiance to the Constitution and respect for all duly constituted authorities, promote
obedience to the laws of the State". Teachers are regarded as duly licensed professionals who
possess dignity and reputation with high moral 'values as well 'as technical arid professional
competence.
3. In what ways can the professional teacher help elevate national morality promote national
provide and cultivate love of country?
 There is no “national morality.” Whatever it seems, it is the sum total of each of our personal
moralities. Thus, you must begin with your own. As a teacher, your students see well any
difference between what you do and what you say. You are the example — so be the example
of what you want your students to learn.
Satisfaction (pride) and love arise out of the reality of our society. If you wish your students to
be satisfied with themselves and their neighbors, then realize that you are an important
neighbor. Remember the Frog Prince — to be loveable, a person must first be loved. Fill your
students with your love and your satisfaction, and with that, they will learn to be satisfied and
to love.
As a teacher, it all starts with you. All your “teaching” is largely irrelevant. Your greatest
influence is in provoking their curiosity and encouraging them to undertake the adventure of
learning to fill their curiosity — about everything, including right action and love of their
neighbors.

4. What steps do employers take to ensure that a teacher is physically, mentally and morally
fit?
 The mentally and morally fit part is taken care of by extensive reference, background, and
credentials check to be certain the person is who the applicant claims to be, is legally eligible to
hold a job in the particular country, and has not committed any crimes or engaged in other
behavior that would disqualify the applicant from holding the position. In addition, applicants
for a teaching position are usually required to give a classroom lecture and a research
presentation which are carefully evaluated both by students and faculty. The physically fit part
is more difficult because of anti-discrimination laws, and has to be carefully linked to the
requirements of the job. A math teacher on crutches or in a wheelchair would do just fine. A
gym teacher on crutches, or a person having a serious speech impediment might be a problem
as a teacher but could be an awesome secretary or researcher.

5. cite actions of a professional teacher that violate section 5, article II

 A teacher has infringed Article II, Section V of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers, if
the teacher is engaged in the promotion of any POLITICAL, religious or other partisan interest,
and if, directly or indirectly, any person or organization solicits, needs, collects or receives any
money or service or other useful material for such purposes.

Application
1. No. Because Teacher B took advantage of his/her position or power to promote self interest
in politics. Therefore, teacher B may be charge for violating Section 7 of Article ll by engaging in
partisan politics. Professional teachers must not engage directly/indirectly in electioneering
except to vote.

V. End of Module Assessment (EMA)

1. In what ways can a teacher cultivate love of country among his students?
 Teachers provide an opportunity for students to learn the assigned material. Teachers
should actively help carry out the declared policies of the state to give impact to learners and
became a role model. Teachers must transmit to the learners such heritage to promote
patriotism and love of the country.

2. When do we say that the teacher is physically, mentally and morally fit?
 Fitness and physical activity are important for teachers as they serve as an example for the
younger generation. Teachers with healthy lifestyle and modelling it in his/her own life is an
effective way to inspire learners. A healthy teacher can maintain a stable perspective at their
lowest and most excitable moments and can work under pressure. Teacher mental health
issues are important because they not

only have a detrimental influence on teachers themselves but also directly affect classroom
outcomes. Having a mentally ill teacher is not appropriate in the profession as such will just give
a psychological turmoil to learners for it will develop fear, misbehavior, and unpleasant
relations with learners and parents. Teachers need to have the good will to do their work and
their authority is drawn on the grounds of good will, and assist in developing the desirable
characteristics or moral values of students.

3. Describe the teacher who is committed and devoted to his duty. Cite situations.
 In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, parents, school districts, teachers, and communities
are doing their best to replace in-person with online learning. Teachers and students are
carrying on with their respective endeavors as well as they can. Some teachers were underpaid
and underappreciated, and for me it is one of the greatest challenge for teachers who may have
lost their motivations on teaching their students. Teachers are having difficulties on trying to

engage students and on how they can succeed, even during a crisis, with the right technology
and support system. However, Teachers are still devoted on encouraging their students and
committed to their duties where they give extra efforts to connect, support and teach. It gives
realization to parents that teaching goes beyond these day-in-and-day-out activities in the
countless moments when we saw teachers go beyond the call of duty.

5. Can a teacher service or modify prototype lesson plans from the central office, considering
situations and or conditions in the barangay? Explain your stand.
Definitely, citations and due credit shall be made if work of others were used. Teacher must
never claim others toils for plagiarism is a crime. In other words, quoting sources for a
presentation is deemed necessary. Authors, books, quotations, saying, power point
presentations were just some of the few materials commonly available through the internet

and most of the time sources are never acknowledge. In this world where almost everything is
available in an instant, recognizing authentic owners of scholarly works is basic.

Check for Understanding

1.Which statement an academic freedom CORRECT?
 C. A teacher academic freedom is limited

2. How, in the performance of her/his duty, can a professional teacher support the state?
 B. Instill nationalism in learners

CONDUCIVE ENVIRONMENT
All teachers shall render the best services ensuring that environment is conducive for
learning and development. Teachers have to build community linkages, provide extension
services and outreach programs to eventually address the needs of their community and the
society as well.

FACILITATOR OF LEARNING
As a facilitator, teacher must offer support and advice when needed, and provide the
necessary scaffolding and teaching of skills when necessary. It is vital that teachers remember
to teach and instruct their students in any particular skill or piece of knowledge that is required
for the task. Facilitator does is plan, guide and manage an event to ensure that the community
objectives are met effectively, with clear thinking, good participation and full buy-in from
learners, parents and community.

HARMONIOUS OFFICIAL RELATIONS

A healthy relationship between the teachers and stakeholders is important, as this will
enable everybody to harmoniously work together, which will have a positive impact on the
students. A stakeholder’s input and relationship with other stakeholders are important in the

planning, implementation and evaluation of, say, health promotion and education programs in
schools. Their personal perceptions and understanding can help motivate children in the school
environment. Parents on the other hand, can help teachers by monitoring the behavior and
social development of their children at home, especially for children with special education
needs.

NOT USE POSITION TO PROSELYTE

A teacher possess freedom to attend church and worships as appropriate, but shall not
use his positions and influence to proselyte others. Not promoting any religion will likewise
serve best its clienteles of being multiculturalist and fully aware of public service- giving service
rather than personal gains. The separation of the church and the state cannot be denied as
stated in the constitution. Teachers should be reminded that the government has not endorsed
any religion as such they also have to. With this, teachers carry the government side and so
have to be wary of others who might not have the same religious beliefs with them.

SOCIAL RECOGNITION
Every teacher shall merit reasonable social recognition for which purpose he shall behave with
honor and dignity at all times and refrain from such activities as gambling, smoking,
drunkenness, and other excesses, much less illicit relations. It is a teacher's responsibility to
provide a nurturing and welcoming

learning environment for all students, and to take seriously the position of influence that she is
in. A teacher can influence what her students talk about, how they think and what they
become. Teachers are role models and the priceless social recognition is awarded everywhere.

COMMUNITY INFORMED
It is the responsibility of the gurus to inform the community about the school’s work,
accomplishments, its needs and problems. Reporting of what the school can do, what the
school has achieved, and the future plans of the school are always integral to both the school
administrative functions and stakeholders in their participation of the so-called shared
responsibility.

LEADERSHIP
Teachers must work in collaboration with principals and other school administrators by
facilitating improvements in instruction and promoting practices among their peers that can
lead to improved student learning outcomes. Teachers lead by example in the way they act,
speak, and behave. Teachers lead their students through challenging activities and rigorous

learning. Then, they take on additional teacher leadership roles inside and outside the
classroom. Activities, events, and extracurricular programs are what build positive school
culture and often require additional leadership support from teachers. Endless academic and
social opportunities for students within schools benefit from teacher initiative and leadership
capabilities.

DISPARAGING THE COMMUNITY

Every teacher shall live for and with the community and shall, therefore, study and understand
local customs and traditions in order to have sympathetic attitude, therefore, refrain from
disparaging the community. Teachers can honor cultural differences by letting students from
different cultures be the expert. Teaching other students about traditions, explaining the
history and geography of countries and regions, and sharing cultural experiences are some
ways to let these students know they are valued and welcome.
