    CULTURAL IDENTITY.
    Grade: 5

    Patterns, functions, and algebra topic:

    Topic: Geometric patterns.

    Social/ cultural context: cultural identity.

    How it will be used: I will use it to introduce geometric patterns, to get learners to understand how
    the patterns grow A strong understanding of shapes can help students better recognize the numbers
    and how they look. Teach learners to use observational skills to identify the different shapes. They
    also learn how to compare different shapes and group similar shapes together.

    CULTURAL IDENTITY.
    Cultural identity is the identity of belonging to a group. It is part of a person's self-conception and
    self-perception and is related to nationality, ethnicity, religion, social class, generation, locality or
    any kind of social group that has its own distinct culture.

    The Zulu Geometric patterns. The cultural identity.

    The Zulu people are a Bantu group of Southern Africa


    and the largest ethnic group in South Africa. ‘Kwa’
    means ‘place of’ and, under apartheid, the KwaZulu-
    Natal region was created for the Zulu and Zulu only.

    The Xhosa geometric patterns the


    cultural identity.

    The Xhosa are a South African cultural group who


    emphasizes traditional practices and customs
    inherited from their forefathers. Each person within
    the Xhosa culture has his or her place which is
    recognized by the entire community.

    The Ndebele geometric patterns the


    cultural identity.
    The Ndebele people (Northern Ndebele:
    amaNdebele; represents a dialect of Zulu in
    Zimbabwe) are a Bantu ethnic group in Southern
    Africa. They speak a language called isiNdebele. The
    Northern Ndebele were historically referred to as
    the Matabele which derives from the Sesotho
    expression thebetelele derived from two words
    “thebe” meaning shield and “telele” meaning tall.

    The Tsonga geometric patterns the cultural identity.

    The Tsonga culture is owned by one of Africa's most vibrant


    ethnical groups to have ever inhabited the South of Africa.
    The Tsonga people are a Bantu speaking ethnic group that is
    also widely referred to as Xitsonga. This colorful ethnic group
    mainly resides in the Southern part of Africa as a continent.

    The Swazi geometric patterns the cultural identity

    Swazi culture is the way of life and customs of the Swazi people through various historical stages.
    The culture of Swazi people involves music, food, religion, architecture, and kinship, among many
    other things. The Swazi people are composed of various Nguni clans who speak the Nguni language
    siSwati. These people mostly reside in Eswatini and South Africa
    The Venda geometric patterns the cultural identity

    Venda is also known as Luvenda or Tshivenda, and originated


    from the Bantu language. Interestingly, it is also related to
    Niger and Congo languages. It is one of the 11 official South
    African languages. over 650 000 of Tshivenda speakers live in
    the northern parts of South Africa’s Limpopo Province. Those
    that speak Tshivenda have a royal family line, and adhere to
    strict traditions that relate to this connection.

    The Sotho geometric patterns the cultural


    identity

    The Sotho people, or Basotho are a Bantu ethnic group of


    Southern Africa who speak Sesotho. They are native to modern
    Lesotho and South Africa. The Basotho have inhabited the region
    since around the fifth century CE and are closely related to other
    Bantu peoples of the region.
