1.

Emma Watson’s speech for the launching of her campaign entitled “HeforShe” tackled about
gender inequality wherein she highlighted feminism. The unchanged realty of gender inequality
to every country in the world gave her the necessity to talk about it. Emma Watson pointed out
that misconceptions about Feminism and the lack of action from both women and men is what
hinders us from achieving gender equality. She believed that gender inequality is not a problem
for women alone but also for men. There is really a need to discuss this issue because in our
world today, a lot of people are experiencing gender inequality but there is so little to no actions
taken about it. So, it is really important to raise awareness regarding this issue to clarify
misconceptions about Feminism and persuade people to take action.

2. I believe that people are reluctant to use the word “feminism” because when someone uses it,
it would sound like man-hating or belittling of men. The media and the people interpret feminism
as an advocacy for women’s right in hopes of achieving equality in the stereotypical world.
However, while others see the good in it some people do not. Feminism in other people’s point
of view is all about favoring women than men. Men are degraded and treated less of how they
should be treated which is a disadvantage of feminism when it is not understood properly.
Feminism should be explained clearly because the misconception of it is what makes people
reluctant in using the said word.

3. Emma Watson wanted to address this issue so that women who were perceived as weak and
men who have suffered from the misconception of feminism will attain gender equality. She
stated that there is no one country in this world that has achieved gender equality women doesn’t
want to be labeled as weak individuals, rather they want to have the same treatment and
opportunity as what men have. Although a lot of people chose to see feminism in a negative
perspective, men and women regardless of age, race and status should have the courage to fight
for equality and freedom.

4. The Concept of “Feminism” as presented in the article is the belief that men and women
should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social
quality of sexes. Our focus is centered to women attaining right and equal treatment that we
forgot to question about men who were not taking action in fear of being labeled as weak and not
“macho” as Emma Watson stated. She also mentioned in her speech that “We don’t often talk
about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes but I can see that they are and that when they
are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence.” In addition, it takes two to
tango to achieve gender equality. Both men and women should work hand in hand and take a
step forward without the other one being left behind. “If men don’t have to be aggressive in order
to be accepted, women won’t feel compelled to be submissive. If men don’t have to control,
women won’t have to be controlled.” Everyone of us is the owner of ourselves. We choose what
we want to do because it is our body, our mind and our soul. We should have equality amongst
ourselves. It should start within us and we should help raise awareness about gender inequality.
