This interface option makes the setting of three interface preferences available to the user:
• Hide/Show Header
Hide Header allows the user to hide the application header.
Both paths are set by default to the installed locations, and the user can set another location if
desired, using this Preferences option.
This section opens the dialogs, tables, and access to resources such as Modeler that are required
to input data and perform the analysis.
Most of the remainder of this document discusses the sections and steps that the Project
Workflow makes available.
In the example above, the user inputs core details of the project. Other dialogs include input of
numeric data required for various parts of the analysis. These are discussed in subsequent
sections.
• Data tables
In addition to displaying dialog boxes, this area of the screen displays data tables associated with
various aspects of the analysis, as illustrated below:
Each of the tables will be explained in the sections of this manual that deal with the data that the
table presents.
The following warning is displayed at the top of program page to remind the user to save the
project:
Project Name Mandatory. Assign a name to the project. Keep letters continuous, or
connect words with an underscore.

Vessel Name Mandatory. Vessel name
Unit System Select the Unit System (unit of measure) from the list box.
NOTE: After the user sets the unit system and clicks OK, the unit
system is set as read-only for the entire project. To set a
different unit of measure, user must create a new project.
Keel Lay Defaults to the date of project creation.

Launch Modeler
The Section Details component of the Section: [Named Section] tab consists of three toolbar
tools and a set of boxes than provide lists, check box options, or data input.
The three toolbars consist of the following:
Launch the Modeler utility directly so the user can edit the
cross section with Modeler.

Half or Full CS Input List box. Select half or full CS input. The default is half.
NOTE: This option is available only if 2D Section Completed
is not checked.
2D Section Completed Check box. Click to indicate that the 2D section has been
completed.
When this box is checked, the information in the remaining
boxes in Section Details cannot be edited by the user. To edit,
uncheck this box.
If the user checks this check box and then clicks the Save
button, this section becomes read-only.
The remaining boxes are common to marine engineering and need no explanation.
NOTE: Before the 2D Section Completed box has been checked and the section has been saved
by use of the Save tool, documented above, data in these boxes can be edited by the user.
24 ABS Eagle OSV User Guide
After those two actions have been taken, data in these boxes becomes read-only.
If the users thereafter desires to edit the data, the 2D Section Completed box can be unchecked,
and the user can once more edit data. If the user edits the values in this part of the tab and clicks
the Save button again, the edited values are applied elsewhere in the OSV Rules analyses.
The data table for Members List contains the following columns:
Index No. Sequential list number for each row, assigned by the
application.
Structure Type Type of structure on which the member occurs, such as being a
longitudinal stiffener associated with the side shell.
hm Height of member in m.
Zm Z value of member in m.
Az cm2-m Az value
2. A window listing both applied cross sections and section(s) available for import from
Modeler is displayed:
After the calculations have been completed, another message indicates that the cross
sections have been imported into OSV Rules:
5. Click OK.
The cross sections are imported, as per the following:
6. OSV imports stiffener library XML available in the same project directory. This import will
be done automatically by the system without user intervention.
Note that the first cross section had already been input from work done in HGSA. The
other three cross sections are indicated as having been developed in Modeler.
Although the calculated values are shown only for a cross section previously imported from
HGSA, the other three sections are present in OSV Rules data.
Before the import operation can proceed, the user must select one of two choices:
Overwrite If the user selects Overwrite, the cross section and or tank
data is imported into OSV Rules, as explained in Section
5.2.3, Import Cross Sections from Modeler to OSV Rules.
Any conflicted data is overwritten and replaced.
Skip If the user selects Overwrite, the cross section and or tank
data is imported into OSV Rules, as explained in Section
5.2.3, Import Cross Sections from Modeler to OSV Rules.
However, any conflicted data from the cross section(s) and
or tank(s) is skipped, and existing data already in OSV
Rules is used for calculations.
After clicking either the Overwrite or Skip radio button, click the Import button. Import and
associated calculations are performed as described above.
3. Press the Tab key to move from field to field to make the desired edits.
NOTE: The fields y1, z1, y2, and z2 cannot be edited by the user, but are protected as read-
only, as long as the cross section has the CS Property of Modeler Input.
4. When edits are complete, click outside the row to close editing.
5. Click the Save button on the OSV Toolbar.
The changes made in the data table are applied to the entire OSV Rules project.
NOTE: Changes made to data tables in OSV Rules are not propagated to data tables in 2D
Modeler. If such changes are needed for future imports, they must be made and saved
directly in 2D Modeler and saved.
In the Data Entry tab, input the data needed to perform the calculations in the other two tabs, as
well as in other areas of the application.
